Destihl Brewery has a DeadHead IPA series. I've had the West Coast-Style recently and thought it was a terrific example of the WCIPA. I haven't had the hazy varieties yet.
Brujos Brewing of Portland, OR, did a collab with Agalloch last year to commemorate their album "Ashes Against The Grain." Appropriately enough, it was a grodziskie. This was around the time that Agalloch did a few shows where they performed the album in its entirety along with a handful of other tracks. GREAT show.
But it's an awesome video, made back when Oskar Blues and 21st Amendment were pretty much the only craft you saw in cans. And beer cans are also the key to the whole plot. At least what plot there is.
I’ve told this story before, but I was once in an elevator with Jello Biafra and someone was carrying a mixed 12-pack of Anchor cans. He said something like, “Anchor in cans. I’ve never seen that before,” which I interpreted as an old-school beer snob anti-can remark. Jello himself was carrying a six pack of Ballast Point, and I said, “You know, the company that makes Corona just bought Ballast Point for a billion dollars.” He replied, “A billion dollars, huh?,” like he didn’t believe me.
Every story I've ever heard about Jello is believable. Doesn't exist on the same planet as us, not too different from a billionaire. Just like every story I've heard about Ian MacKaye being the most unhappy person you'd ever meet if you run into him is. (I've heard so many after my time in DC)
I probably made it sound like he was an asshole, but I found the interaction somewhat endearing. Mildy crotchety, rightfully skeptical of the wild claims of some rando. He definitely wasn’t putting on airs. The dude pulled up to a afterparty with regular folks driving a decades-old Toyota and carrying a six pack. He seemed pretty down to Earth.
