Heady Topper Dethroned PTE & now Vanilla Bean Aged Dark Lord

Boy, I sure wish we could have another topic comparing Heady Topper to Pliny.

 

Never had Citra or Abrasive. But I just had Palate Wrecker last night. Not even close to Heady. Would love to get my hands on those other 2. Heady's over PtE for me as well, and the closest DIPA I've had to it for my preference is Dreadnaught. Yes it's another PtE vs HT thread, but they're gonna happen. It's as annoying to always see the ridiculous amount of posts sarcastically talking about PtE vs HT threads. All it does is add a couple lines of text we could avoid reading if we decide to view the thread even after seeing what it's about.

 

Drank a Palate Wrecker and Heady tonight. Palate Wrecker was very good but doesn't come close.

In all seriousness, I think I enjoyed Heady more and that's something given that I love Ply-knee. Close contest, if a contest at all.

Wait, Heady and Pliny are in the same family of beers? Heady is just so vastly superior in every way that I assumed it was in a different category.

 

I've had PtE, Abrasive, Hopslam, and Nugget Nectar.

Heady Topper is far an away better [/vermontguy]

Anyone I've ever had try Heady has been blown away unlike anything else I've seen. This beer is in a league of its own, if you ask me.

 

HT is fantastic makes me wish I lived in NE. There are close in PTE and the Alpine offerings, IMO they're all seriously good stuff. Then there's Citra which is amazing, but I've only had it once, and Knuckle Sandwich , all outstanding. I'd love to do a side by side with Citra and HT, but the Citra fresh is a really tough get.

 

Not sure if anyone noticed but it took the lead over Vanilla Bean Aged Dark Lord for the #4 in the world.

Wow. I scored it quite a bit lower than the average and I had 3 cans worth.(traded 1) I will say it tasted better from the can and I would have scored it higher based on the taste.

Just throw a bit of a vanilla beer in with your Dark Lord.

Good, I have always been annoyed by Vanilla Aged Dark Lord being way up there (since the days when it had like 30 reviews). Would have to trade a my life savings to get that beer. The rest of the top 10 is somewhat reasonable to obtain except for Blabaer and PtY (biased on this because I got it in Philly very easily once), which is what I like to see.

 

Kern Citra isn't even close to being in the same ballpark as Heady, IMO. Kern Citra is good but I couldn't drink it like I can Heady...drinkability is off the charts. Now HF Double Citra, that's another story....

 

HT > PtY imo. If it were bottled and year round I think you'd see "#1" slide downward.

 

The difference in BA scores between Heady, Pliny, and Vanilla DL is .01 of a point, with Heady and Van DL tied. Pliny and Heady, though both hoppy, have different flavor profiles and don't deserve to be constantly compared to each other. Probably very few of us could tell the difference between Heady and a BA Dark Lord

 

I like HEady more than PtY but I have Citra ranked as the best DIPA.
