Bell's Coming to NYS?

    "It was all by the seat of our pants," said Larry Bell, who founded Bells Brewery in 1985. Based in Kalamazoo, Mich., Bells is now the seventh largest craft brewery in the United States, with 207 employees and two production facilities. Bells distributes in 18 states, plus Puerto Rico and Washington, DC. and soon plans to expand to New York State.

    He must really hate us, they distribute to Puerto Rico but not NY...glad to see this is changing.

    There's no question that distribution to NY is bound to happen. Let's face it, for the big boys of craft beer, the next few years are going to be an arms race with validating the expansion dollars being spent. With NYC and the chain stores of upstate NY, how can Bell's look at New York and say, "naw, I'll pass."

    Bell's certainly isn't hurting, but not for nothing, this is a business as well. Here's to hoping I'm right.

    Larry Bell had some fight with NYS. And likely has family or vacation property in Florida.

    Mmmm Two Hearted and Expedition in NYS. Nice. Thought we'd have to wait until he died or sold. Glad it only took 20 years for Mr. Bell to get over his butt hurt.

    Yeah. Saw that they're planning on upstate first. When was the last time that happened? (Looking at you, Founders and Firestone Walker. Not that I'm bitter—still very, very grateful for those two.)
