Do you think a Bruery BBA2TD is equal to a Rare? i typically think so....but i could be wrong

So I would need to add more to a BBA2TD to get a Rare?

What really sucks is rare sat on the shelves for a long long time, due to its price tag, and a lot of newer guys have a hard time getting it now because of how great it is. I got my 3rd with 50 bucks of tasty locals while it still sat on shelves. I got my first 2 from an awesome ba. It's all about connecting with cool people and being unselfish with your beer.

To be completely honest its half of its former selfl, if you think it's great now, man was it outrageous than.

Had it "fresh" and had it not so "fresh" and it really isn't worth what folks are asking for it in now my IMHO.

I would so incredibly much rather drink
    "AftW + Cherry Rye + BCBCS '12 + 4pk BCBS"
than a Rare I cannot even begin to express it.

Maybe that's why it's getting harder to seek out. Everyone drank theirs as it started falling off.

Guess I'll chalk it up to one I missed out on. I can't even trade my limited cellar for it at this point.

I had one fresh and it was no better than regular BCBS with a few years on it. I'm laying down my other Rare for 5 years - I know people are saying it is "falling off", but it's also entirely possible it is going through its "awkward phase" and will be better in a year or two. Either way, I'm in for one hell of a 2015 session with one each of rare, the original coffee, vanilla, and a regular 09 bomber.

If I had one more extra, I would happily trade it for that same pu pu platter as well. Hell, I'd take 3 4-packs of regular BCBS. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that I'd rather have a lot of really awesome beer rather than one really rare awesome beer.

In the end it really is about finding the right person. I ended up getting my Rare with a large quantity of awesome beer. I'd tried with combos of awesome bottles and had gotten nowhere. I assume it's just that the right person saw my quantity offer and did it. Rare is out there, so many bottles were released. Keep trying!

Also, having tried a 4oz pour of it last fall, I can say it is DEFINITELY worth it to me. It was way beyond regular BCBS, even some with some age. It was just outstanding. Maybe I got a particularly great bottle, who knows. To me, Rare has been one GREAT bottle that's proven worth the chase.

I thought it was the best stout I've ever tried but hardly worth the 40.00 I paid. Aged BCBS, as you say, is nearly as good.

I would so greatly enjoy that list of beers I quoted over any single beer I can think of. Even the vintage Cantillons I have tasted are not worth trading for so much excellence.

Guess I will never be a whale hunter, but to me it is the amount of enjoyment drinking the beer can give me, not the amount of enjoyment looking at bottles in my cellar gives, nor the amount of enjoyment knowing the jealousy my collected beers can inspire in other collectors.

Maybe I'll try again in a few more weeks/months. I still have 2 bottles of '09 BCBS, and it sounds like they're drinking pretty well, so I'm not completely out of luck.

In the first two months Rare was the best stout ever made. Now it is just a very nice stout.

Threw up an ISO for this in exchange for Juicy, BoT, Twilight, and Clara. Actually did get someone who said he'd do it, but crickets for IP Chicago. How much would I have to tweak here? Maybe subbing out the Twilight/Clara for something a bit stronger. Any thoughts?

^ Seems pretty solid. I read in a thread a little while back that someone traded $60 worth of HF saisons for a Rare.

My buddy and myself have been trying to put a trade together to get a Rare based around 2x Cherry Ryes and got nothing. Maybe because we're limiting it to IP Chicago?

I tweaked it by adding in Cherry Rye + Genealogy of Morals for the Clara, ISO Rare+Bramble, and again crickets from Chicago folks. The CR was more or less meant to go 1:1 for Bramble, so I'm offering Juicy + BoT + GoM + Twilight for Rare. I wouldn't think I'm that far off, but no one even responding with a counter-offer.

2 problems with this - I'm not interested in trading IP Chicago, and I'm not interested in stouts/porters. All saisons and I'm in (with shipping).

mattafett, if I had more saisons at the moment, I think we could do this, but I only have a couple.

To others: do you think these (see links below) could get done if I open it up to shipping, or am I just off? IP Chicago yielded only a few responses, and the main one is contingent on another trade. Really hoping to get this for a special occasion, but I don't think I'm willing to do much more. Especially when there is some consensus that Rare is, at best, not getting better at this point. Also, there was chatter from a GI event where they said they don't want to be holding onto the rest of the KH/Rare that much longer.
