Tryon likes to warehouse age their Imperial IPA's for customer satisfaction.

 

And you like to bitch and moan about "freeshness".....unlike 3/4 of the stuff in your fridge that's out of date.

 

Wtf you talking about, do you work at tryon or something or are you just not very knowledgable about how freshness factors in on hoppy beers?

 

Nope do not work at Tryon, and yes very knowledgeable about beers but my point is your pettiness about freshness is what beer drinkers like myself can't stand sitting next to at taprooms. There are many factors in getting beer from point A to point B. Relax , sit back and enjoy the beer! It's BEER , not bread so your rants about the freshness are ridiculous and petty.

 

Couldn't possibly disagree more. If this batch really arrives in NC four months after the bottle date, that's an insult to educated consumers and the intent of the brewer.

 

Yeah, it's not like Tryon sat on Hopslam for about 2 weeks. Which they did. At least it was only 2 weeks, not 2+ months.

Knowing a bit about inventory management (since I write that kind of software for a living), it seems odd they'd hold a beer in their warehouse, taking up space that could be used for other beers, when it would sell out in an instant, decreasing their carrying cost to near $0. Just sayin'...

 

My understanding is that there was more to the Hopslam decision:
They get two separate shipments every year, a few days apart. Last year they figured out the allocations per sales person/account, and when the first half of the total shipment showed up they told all of the sales people to sell half of their allotment, or to fill half of their accounts order. So, for example, if Salesguy Bob has a bar that was getting 4 cases he was supposed to sell 2 one week and 2 when the second shipment came in. Of course many of them didn't listen and sold their full amounts. This lead to some places getting their full amount, while others in the same city didn't get any for a week or more depending on delivery days. Tryon got a bunch of angry complaints from shops and bars wondering why store-x down the road got some and they didn't. This year to prevent that they held all of the first shipment until the second arrived to ensure that everyone in the state got it with in the same week.

So basically: damned if they did, damned if they didn't....but it wasn't stictly an inventory management decision

 

This is basically what I heard as well...... the simple answer would be to send stores half of what they were allotted when the first shipment came, then send the other half when the second order came and all the while being transparent while doing so.

 

Yep, you are correct sir! Everybody got their pop, once. That way retailers could unload their stacks, once. It sure makes it easier to know that what you have is.... what you have for customers, instead of worrying about future shipments to be spread out.

 

That would require ethical salespeople ... Did I just say that with a straight face? :-D

 

That is what they tried to avoid Ponch. Have you not been reading the posts? Or are you so concerned with the "freshness" still. You're like the taper that has to have every show but hasn't listened to a single one yet.
