So it appears a bottle broke on the way to the house a box was being delivered to. Literally, on the truck being delivered that day. UPS website says, "Exception- Damage Claim under investigation". It also said sender being contacted yet I havent received a call yet, 2 days later. Does anybody have experience with this, was the box eventually returned to sender? Thanks for the help.

I have had this happen when a UPS driver was alarmed that the box had broken elements. What he was hearing was rice in the box designed to cover up the sloshing sound. The shipper had to call and tell them that it was some loose candy in the box. UPS then called and let me pick the box up (could have had a redelivery attempt, too).

Should I be calling UPS then?

I am having a similar situation. I had a box that was out for delivery that had a growler that had possibly leaked. The tracking says that the receiver refused delivery (they did not). Also that the leaking container was discarded and that the remaining contents were being returned to me. The return box should arrive today, so I guess I will see what the damages are. It sucks when things don't go right, but at least the rest of the bottles will be returned to me.

The shipper had to call in my case and then UPS called me to see if I wanted a re-delivery attempt or to pick up the package at the nearest location.

Same thing, just talked to UPS. They re-packaged it and are sending it back to the UPS store I shipped from. Im not too worried as everything can be replaced in the package. BTW, that Rumpkin was pretty tasty.

Hey glad you liked it. I actually never got to try it since I had another box that I shipped out 2 bottles in that just completely vanished. I replaced with my last bottles and cried over the loss of all my Rumpkin! Haha jk, it's just beer. Luckily this box I am getting returned is all off the shelf, so no need to replace out of my collection this time.

I think I am overdoing it with my packaging, which is raising my shipping cost, but I just really want my shipments to be safe. I package it so they can drop and/or kick the box with no issues. But just in case each bottle is initially put in a ziplock bag to prevent leakage.

I put everything in a giant trash bag and seal it before sending. Just to make sure nothing leaks!

I think I may start doing this from here on out. When I brought beer on the plane from Hawaii to Japan, I individually ziplocked after individually bubble wrapping. I then laid out a ton of bubble wrap, lining the entire suitcase. I'd rather spend the extra time/money to make sure it gets where it needs to go safely.

I put every beer in their own gallon zip lock bags.

I actually put each individual beer in a newspaper delivery bag. I have a ton of them since I get the paper delivered every day. Once they are in the bag, I twist and fold over so if there is breakage, they wont leak all over the box.

Just to let anybody know who posted on this thread. They are now returning the box to me, so I assume they removed the broken bottle, re-packaged, and are sending it back to me.

Someone should find a way to simply dehydrate beer to a fine powder, (like Tang) and when water is added, Presto! Your beer is back to normal, no fuss no muss.
This would solve most shipping problems, I think. Your welcome

This means your driver is an ass and decided to report it smelled like alcohol instead of delivering it or they couldn't find the address for some reason. If its alcohol it usually gets updated to say so within 2 weeks
