So you complete a trade and a box arrives at your front door, you are a bit underwhelmed, and know that your box was a little better or contatined more bottles. What do you do?

I ask this becasue I hate the thought of being the guy who sent out a box that didn't make someone stoked. (To anyone who has sent me a box, I promise I have loved all of your shipments!!!)

I want to know if you would mention it to the person who sent the box to you. I think I would want someone to tell me my box was a little lackluster. If someone told me, and they had valid reasons.... I would send them a follow up box to prove that I am as bad ass as I claim to be.

So what would you do? What is proper etiquette?

Meh, just know not to trade with them again or just keep it a no extra trading relationship and leave it at that. I just completed a trade with someone where I added 3 or 4 extras and he sent none. He was cool and communicative and he shipped fast and I would probably trade with him again, but I probably wouldn't go to the store just to buy extras for him, as I did the last time.
This was also the first time I got no extras. On the other end of the spectrum, I completed a trade with someone whose communication sucked and made me nervous, but sent the best extras I've ever been given.
If it bothered you this much I'd just not trade with him again.

If they didn't send what was agreed upon, they need to be informed and if they do not correct, bad trader (dick move, whatever). But I'm assuming you're talking about extras, in which case: they're extra. Not required. Be glad that you got them, and keep on crushing the people you send to - it's more fun that way.

If your talking about extras ...... well they're extras and not part of the defined trade when people ask do you want to do extras its usually something local or a beer someone has from your wants list..... or thinks you'll enjoy a beer they like Alot too

You sent a box that was "a little better" than an underwhelming one you received? Seems like a non-problem.

thanks guys.... I haven't had one single bad experience. I am asking, because I don't want to be the guy who performed the dick move haha.

Say we set up a locals for locals trade. You send me a couple off the shelf limited releases and standard shelf finds. I send you all local standard shelf finds. You sent me 5 750's, and I sent you 3 750's and 5 12 oz. but you were underwhelmed because nothing was all that great or hard to find. Do you say something or just assume he did his best to get you some good beers?

When a specific list of wanted bottles is not listed it makes it a little more difficult I am assuming.

the other way around actually... but the situation is completely hypothetical at the moment. I am just curious what someone would do if I sent the underwhelming box.

I am of the belief that I want to win the trade hands down and show the person some new beers. Maybe no whales, but some stuff they havent tried. do you hold bottle count or beer quality higher?

I recently asked one of my regular trading partners how he felt about the boxes I send. Of course, I obviously have a comfort level w/ him at this point with the amount of trades and just general communication to be able to ask such a thing and expect an honest response - which I received.

So if you're worried about your box performance, I'd recommend asking a regular trading partner whom you would expect to give you honest feedback.

^^^ What he said....a little better is not a reason to be bummed out or worse, start a thread about how you sent A LITTLE BETTER. Next time, Blow them away and you have a base for your argument.

If I get better extras than I send out, then I send a follow up box and admit defeat. If I get lesser but fair extras, Win for me. If I get zero extras or dick for extras, then either dont trade with them again or dont send them extras next time. To avoid this, ask about extras before sending, it'll save you from having to start a thread. (Not trying to be harsh but it is pretty truthful, I dont think you will find too many sympathetic ears on this thread with A Little Better).

As long as the box I'm receiving contains the bottles I traded for, I'm happy. If I managed to crush someone else's porch and bury them in good bottles, I'm even happier.

"Always send the kind of box you would love to receive" = words to live by.

If that happened, they'd probably have you ship first to mitigate the risk of over-sending in a future trade.

1 of every +5 boxes you receive from someone you've not traded with before will be awesome. The rest will just be boxes with your agreed upon trade + whatever. Take note of who you took care of you and be sure to trade with them and take care of them in the future. That's how trading becomes really fun after you get over the initial shock and awe that you can actually ship beer to a person 8 states away and he'll ship you back different beer.

As with most moral dilemmas that crop up on this site I think the solution is quite simple: Do whatever you feel is right, just don't be a dick about it.

the thread was purely to see what people would do if they were underwhelmed... I was not referring to my recent trades because from what I have heard, people have been happy. Just picking brains to see what people would say/do. But I do understand your opinion and your advice. Cash flow permitting, I always love trying to flat out destroy their door step with goodness.

    Word up!

That is a preference of the person receiving the box I guess. I would rather receive a couple of decent locals or quality bottles/cans than ounces.

I was in a BIF recently where I sent a great box (not Whale Slayer worthy but hit 3 tough Wants) and was glad to do it. Of course, my sender was the guy who sent out 2 weeks after the deadline then the box I got was extremely underwelming. It was so bad that the guy running the BIF sent him a BM (which went unanswered) about the weak box and am even getting a sympathy box from another BIF participant. I was bummed out but shit happens...

If you have have to question if the extras you send out are good enough, ask yourself this....Is this box that I am sending out good enough for me? If you would not be satisfied receiving that box yourself, then step it up.

I wouldnt say anything at all. If we made a trade of a Darkness for a Hunapu and I throw him a 375 of cantillon classic as an extra and he sends me some jai alai my reaction would be "Fucking awesome, some free beer!"
