22ozer from Waterbury Beverage, Waterbury, VT.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/4" tan head over a reddish-brown brew. Head again similar to a cask ale, kind of light and big-bubbled, and laces well. Fruity aroma, with a slight alcohol hum in the background. Flavor is sour and fruity, and that trait shouts over all other tastes (if any) present. Not as balanced as it could/should be, I would think. As has been noted for many of the other McNeill's brews that I have had, mouthfeel is somewhat disappointing with the low carbonation (not unexpectedly). Mouthfeel not so great with the strong sour and lack of carbonation. Drinkability, well, I wouldn't go back for another.

I read where this was stored in the cellar for six months before they released it to the stores. Maybe they should have stored it in the attic instead? Says bottle conditioned on the label but the carbonation was non-existent. Tasted like it could be decent if it was nice and bubbly. Didn't notice any Dubbel aromas or notice any belgian alcohol flavors though. I have another bottle which I will let sit in a warm room for a couple of months to see if it helps out the CO2 level.

Tried my second bottle after leaving it at room temperature for about 4 months and it mustered up a little bit of carbonation but not enough to make it enjoyable. Even it was carbonated properly, i don't think it would be all that good. Kind of watery with some astringent, grassy hop flavors. Did he even use a belgian yeast with this?

Pours a cloudy dark redish brown with a tan head. Flavors are big, but a balance is not reached. Malts hit the back of the toungue, but where's the love? Not even smooth enough to help out. Certainly this beer has potential, but that's all it has. With all the stellar McNeill's beers available, this is not the one to pick out.

I had the Dubbel Vision at the brewery, and I'm assuming this is the same one. Pours a deep cloudy brown, with a dun colored, quickly dissipating head.
Aroma is malty and big, with a slight alcohol bite. Mild hints of licorice and currant. Hops are definitely present. Some chocolate malt and coffee aroma. Smells like a british styled barleywine, and not much like an abbey dubbel..
Flavor is huge. Tastes more like a barleywine to me. Big malt, with pretty agressive hopping. Slight nuttiness, big alcohol flavor, light notes of cherry, licorice, and currant. A touch of coffee. A pretty swell barleywine, but I wouldn't call this a dubbel, unless you mean the color. Definitely worth a try, just don't drink it with a dubbel in mind.
