Scotch Ale

On draft at Brewers. Poured a clear reddish caramel color, very limited head or carbonation. Plenty of malt in the aroma with some toffee or caramel. Taste is excellent, sweet malt with the same toffee and maybe a bit of sweet fruit. No bitter on the finish, very well balanced. The sweetness lingers but goes very well with a warmth from the alcohol. This batch weighed in at 8.5% while it seems others have been different. As a fan of the style I liked this one very much, will have to return for a growler sometime.

Pours a lovely deep red in a ful glass (shows a little brown in certain lights). Damn clear look is nice, but minimal head and lacing counter.

Nose is malty, a little toffee note along with a hint of cherry. Also getting a little Belgian-like banana - which seems out of character.

Taste is a little more caramelly, light versus burnt. A little banana is detected, but it's combined with a light maple-like alcohol taste/feel that counters nicely. A little tingle is nice, and the cherry note from the nose seems to accent the malts nicely.

Definitely a nice malty version that I enjoyed a bunch. Would be good after a meal to dip on, even at a moderate 7.5%.

 

 

 

 

 

Poured in the correct tulip glass at the bar, a really nice rendition of this tasty style. Dark brown with green and red highlights in the glass, a decent head of foam and little visible carbonation. Taste is both caramel malts, a subtle fruity hops, and touch of alcohol warmth that was almost a welcome part of the flavor. Great choice; not quite as drinkable as others, but very enjoyable indeed.

Poured from the tap by Tim at the pub. The liquid is brown with nice reddish hues and good carbonation. The Head is good tan and left some lace.

The smell is good nice scotchy, smoky aroma from the malt.

The taste is quite good as well, a nice light smoky malt, and a good balance with the hops. A nice little alcohol taste also surfaces. This brew has just about everything we look for in this style. It seems to build complexity as it warms.

The mouthfeel is a bit better then medium body, and the carbonation is good but could be just a bit better.

The drinkability is very good, I am very glad I got a chance to order this brew. Prosit MK

On draft at the brewpub. Served in a tulip glass. This is pitch black with a thin trim of white. Very light licorice aroma. Once it’s finally tasted, this has a robust sugary essence, but in an extremely well-balanced way. Roasty, toasty and very sweet, this is an awesome beer for the winter months. (#2658, 1/15/07)

A deep brown brew with a sweet malt on the nose. The alcohol was warm on the palate and the malt came through nicely with just a hint of hops in the background. I like Scotch Ales and this one was good, but not great! I would like to taste it again and hope to on our next visit in the Fall.

Served in a stemmed tulip glass. Beautiful strong shade and a nice smell....not too strong but you could tell you were going to be drinking something with some "bite" to it.

I think it is 6.8% alcohol, which is reasonable to drink without getting totally sloshed on one beer.

This is always my first choice when we go here. I normally like an Amber or Red ale so this is as close as it gets.

Served in a (hey!) tulip! but ice cold (boo!) Sweet! 6.5% ABV. Poured a pretty russet amber topped with a collar. Scents initially reminded me of a pale, then some slight scotch poked through but I didn't find any Scotch yeast detection or any peat hints. More of an imperial red. Quite hoppy really. Flavors of bubble gum, gummi worm and a slight grape and berry hint. One of their best beers that I tried all week. Reccomended.

Beers like this are making it a dog fight between Brewer's Alley and Barley Hops beerwise, but Brewer's Alley is the Tiger Fighter ambiance and food wise.
