This beer has a subtle hop aroma from the addition of hops directly to the fermentor (a technique referred to as "dry-hopping" or "dry-hopped"). It has a clean and light taste, with a dry finish. The crisp dryness is derived largely from the use of Munich-style malts in the grist. Caramel and Chocolate malts were also used, resulting in a beer which is very easy to drink but also has some maltiness in the finish. All the hops used were imported from Germany and Czechoslovakia (Hallertau and Saaz hops). The beer was brewed as a special beer for the 1999 wedding of our Brewmaster, Tom.

A lot more floral than I remember, with a borderline unpleasant soapy twang. I remember an earthier, subtler beer and I gotta admit I'm disappointed. Not much depth from the malts either, unfortunately.

Poured from the bottle into a stange glass.
A foamy off white head makes its appearance, but settles slowy and falls. Body color is a very nice red amber and chestnut brown hued red color. Some cola bubbles, some faint carbonation rising. Kind of a nice looking beer here.
A real muted bready sense, and clove spices with dry malt. A good yeast and muted yeasty punch also, dry, I am digging this so far.
Palate doesn't bring the goods. Malt accents are muted and not brought forward. A slight hop bent, but also a plain dry finish. Spicy character hinting from the nose doesn't seem to come forward in the palate. Mild wetness for mouthfeel but not too bad.
Overall it's an ok brew I'd drink it over many others, but certainly not a great altbier.

2008: Always looking for a new take on a favorite style, this Alt wasn't quite what I expected, but I liked it. A tiny bit lighter in color than your typical German Alt (slightly opaque amber--looked just like the Oktoberfest others at my table were having, though the head was a bit more tan) and the same malty freshness in the nose and in the taste. Some hops in the aftertaste--a somewhat pronounced bitterness that really rounded the flavor nicely. Excellent and very drinkable. Almost like being in Dusseldorf. I hope they bottle it!
2013: Tried again in a bottle. I enjoyed it even more. Same quality flavor profile, a bit darker color and a bit lighter body than I remember (both good traits) but equally good. I hope they keep bottling because I'll keep buying. Those fancy little flip top bottles of Uerige I've been buying are expensive.
