Yuiga Doxon is located in Furano, which is more or less the geographical center of Hokkaido and famous of lavender fields in the summer. The "beer hall" is located minutes from the Furano Ski Resort. The entrance to Yuiga Doxon doubles as a bakery, where they sell a number of types of breads and desserts, and their bottled beer. The "an-pan" with butter is awesome.
The building is spacious, 3 floors, of sort of a log-cabin/swiss chalet feel. Lots of exposed wood and random european-looking relics, like paintings and lamps and rugs. Many private unique tables fill about 5 different dining rooms. Our group was large, so we occupied a traditional Japanese izakaya-style, floor seating long table.
Besides the atmosphere, the food has to be the main reason to visit Yuiga Doxon. Food in Hokkaido is excellent compared to the rest of Japan -- Yuiga's food is excellent among Hokkaido food. If you are more than 6, you can call ahead and they'll create a course meal/all-you-can-drink deal for $30 a person, which we did.
The garlic potatoes and local cheeses were excellent, as was the house-cured smoked salmon sashimi mmmm. The housemade sausages, besides the bread, is probably what Yuiga is most famous for, and they were delicious, especially the ones made w "ainu negi" a local mountain vegetable akin to garlic. Tons of their bread is also made available.
Unfortunately, this time around, they only had one of the three beers they make, the "Yummy" Dark -- which is highly drinkable and goes well w the food. I'd had their other 2 beers previously, the Weizen and the Pilsener. Both are good -- but share a watered-down taste w the "Yummy". Still, good and unique German-style beers.
Can't recommend this place more.
