Baltic Porter is exceptionally dark, with a heavily roasted, smokey aroma. Unlike traditional porters, baltic porters use lager yeast, making the beer velvety smooth and slightly sweet. We added dried licorice root to give a pleasant, faint herbal note. The flavor rounds out with roasted notes of dark chocolate.

Listed as Foeder-Aged which I think explains the funkiness I'm getting. I imagine they've used that foeder for beers containing lactobacillus in the past.

On tap at Angel City Brewery in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours an almost opaque super dark crimson-brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, chocolate syrup, and vanilla aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, roasted nut, earth, and char flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with nice cocoa and roast characteristics that are slightly better in the taste to me.
Serving type: on tap.
