On-tap at the brewpub itself, on to the beer:

Some thin head on top, though its retention is fine and it leaves dots of lace around the glass. As for the beer, it's red colored with orange hues. Smells of dry caramel and modest hops tease the nose, albeit soft with the intensity. To taste, the beer is more malt forward, with English malt leading the way. Husky malt, dry, somewhat fruity and a little sweet. I don't get a sense of hoppiness, though I'm not necessarily asking for some. It's medium bodied, and while decent overall, is not a memorable ale.

On tap at Red Car Brewery in Torrance, CA.

Pours a clear copper with a foamy beige head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt and grain aromas. Taste is much the same with malty and fruity flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is decent but plain.

On tap at the brewery served in a pint glass. Aroma is toasty and just a hint of earthy floral hops. Color is a medium brown, served with very little head. Flavor is more toasty cracker. Some hints of coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Very little sweetness and bitterness is balanced even with the malt. An easy drinking session beer that is light on the palate and drinkable. This beer is more like a lower gravity brown ale or a slightly bigger English Mild.

Draft, consumed at brewery on 01/07/08.

Described to me by the bartneder as more of an ESB.

Light brown/caramel coloring. Fast fading head.

No aroma.

Quite astringent with mild maltiness. Sweet orange finish without bitterness.

Unusual and a touch more interesting than the rating might suggest.

Drank out of a pint glass on tap at the brewery. Pale, Maris Otter, Crystal and Chocolate malts make up this almost 5% abv amber. Pours pretty dark, probably from the chocolate malt, with about a finger of head that dissipated quickly. Smell was nothing exciting, but was pleasant. Tasted very fresh and crisp. Some caramel and toasted flavors with a very subdued hop presence. Nothing stands out in the taste, but there are no off flavors to complain about. Enjoyable. The mouthfeel is nice, maybe a little thin with a nice carbonation. Extremely drinkable though, and while I haven't said anything exceptional about it I would definitely get it again as it's pretty enjoyable with your food.

A: Appears as a lighter shade of rootbeer with lots of kicks from the light. Fairly clean with just a touch of haze. Creamy, light beige head.

S: Not very strong what so ever. Faint caramel, brown sugar and toasted grains.

T: Very light sweetness, sort of like brown sugar water. Some roasted barley and minor bitterness floating around in there. Finishes with some buttery flavors.

M: Medium mouthfeel with a fuzzy carbonation.

D: This beer was so so. Nothing to get excited about.

This beer poured a red brown color with a thick sheet of lacing. Aroma was faint, but mostly consisted of roasted smells. The taste was a bit more subdued than I would have liked - some very faint malty and roasted flavors, but it didn't stand out much. My least favorite of the brews I tried here, but still a decent beer that is very drinkable.
