Described as a "Harvest Ale" on the chalkboard, and coinciding with the fall release of wet hopped ales, I asked the bartender if it was wet hopped. Answer: "Tastes like Newcastle." Groan...
This is sort of an estery, bitter take on Goose's Harvest Ale, and not remotely a hop driven beer.
Cloudy amber color, offwhite foam and very frothy on the surface, leaving spotty lacing in a ring around the edges of the glass.
Aroma was estery and phenolic, lightly spicy. Malt overtones, overall a clean nose, but lacking hop character.
Flavor was moderately astringent, estery yeast and caramel malt flavors dominate. Bitter, tea-like aftertaste, overly slick and carbonated. Would benefit from higher attenuation.
