Loosely put together head, gets close to two fingers, the high amount of larger bubbles finds it popping at a swift clip, very mottled cream white surface, the lacing is light, abbreviated streaks randomly arrayed. The liquid is a very deep metallic orange, coppery, there’s a light haziness to it and a scattering of lazy bubbles, no beads. There’s a good dose of caramel, cocoa maltiness to the nose, thick pine sap and glazed orange peel, there is some stank to the earth and herbal matter, enough so to dampen the sweetness of the pineapple, mango, nectarine, papaya fruit scents, overall it’s a big musky cloud where the individual components converge more than not. Full-bodied, surprisingly high amount of frothy carbonation which helps restrain its natural inclination towards stickiness. Caramel, maple syrup, scone to biscuit breadiness, the relatively tame grapefruit, tangerine citrus makes the sweetness more solid than liquid which in turn differentiates it from the bitter grassiness, tea leaves, tar and black earth flavors. The peach, nectarine, pineapple fruit lacks clarity and gets lost some. A lot going on, could have benefitted from dialing back on trying to touch all the bases.

A 22oz bomber picked up at Brusin Ales, Asheville NC in March, 2016

L - Burnt orange with no clarity, unfiltered with lots of sediment and yeast floating around, 1 finger of head, and some nice lacing left on the sides of the glass

S - Citrus hops, earthy malts, perfect

T - Citrus and grapefruit, with a slight bitter aftertaste. Tasty!

F - Well carbonated, medium body

O - Another great IPA, or DIPA from Pisgah. It tastes like a stronger Greybeard

Appearance: pours a clear orange color with a 2" head that lasts a while. Nice lace develops during the session.

Smell: loads of earthy hop goodness jump from the glass along with some softer citrus aromas.

Taste: caramel, grapefruit, bit of lemon zest, some orange, and a bunch of earthy hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium-heavy in body. Lightly crisp throughout with some dryness late. Long lasting earthy and bitter aftertaste.

Overall: a DIPA that has a great flavor profile, is mildly refreshing, and enjoyable to drink.

A hazy golden color. Not a lot of aroma. Taste leans towards malty but finishes with a piney finish.

1 pt 9 fl oz poured into a tulip glass.

A - Pours a cloudy ruby orange. One finger head that moves to thin lace fairly quickly.

S - Mango, citrus

T - Good balance of tropical notes, bready malts, and a healthy dose of pine in the finish.

M - Carbonation medium low, full, gets sticky as it warms.

O - Glad to come across this and happy to help celebrate the 10 year. Time for a Black Mountain visit.

Happy anniversary to probably my favorite NC. brewery.Pours into an impy nonic a orange infused medium golden with a thinner but very sticky white head atop.Dank resinous and sharp grapefruit-like hops stand out in the nose.A big shot of sharp grapefruit rind flavors upfront on the palate with even more pine resin and herbal notes behind that,a caramel sweetness comes up big in the finish but never over takes the big bold hop profile like to many of the DIPA's do.A very interesting hop profile with all the elements of the hops coming together very well.Nice job.

Poured into a Dogfish traditional oversized snifter. No freshness date.

A- Pours a semi-hazy medium amber color with a 1/4 inch off-white head that retains a bit before becoming a large center patch of bubbly surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves small clots behind.

S- Earthy, somewhat sweet aroma of moderately pungent hops and cereal grain-like malt. I think I detect some amarillo.

T- Nice sweet/bitter duality. Hop flavor definitely leans more toward the earthy, herbal side of the spectrum. Solid malt backbone and the alcohol is well concealed.

M- Sharp from the hops with medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the fuller side.

O- Though a bit on the sweeter, maltier side, this is a very enjoyable DIPA that does a good job of letting the citra and simcoe (not amarillo, I looked it up) shine.
