Pours a clear reddish walnut color with a small tan head falls to a ring with sparse lace.
Aroma is nice sugary malts lots of vinous notes on top of wine barrel, plums, raisins, light pear and some light spiciness from the yeast and alcohol.
Taste is nice sugary malts good free floating sugars. Sugar coated dates, plums, grapes, good wine barrel notes all floating on a warming sugary malty base. Some good spice notes in the finish from the yeast. Alcohol is pretty well hidden for the 12.1% but adds some warming notes and spiciness also.
Mouthfeel is big full lots of free floating sugars making it feel chewy and carbonation is on the low side for a Belgian style brew, which is what I prefer.
Overall very good, especially for an American brewery attempt at this hard to get right style. Would and will purchase this again if it is still available on my next trip to Asheville.
