Nitro-pour at the brewery.

Pours a dark brown with a cascading one-finger tan head. The head recedes into a thin layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of creamy roasted malts with good amounts of unsweetened chocolate.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Mild roasted malt flavors up front give way to unsweetened chooclate flavors with a very slight hint of vanilla. The roasted flavors fade a bit as the beer warms resulting in a sweeter drink. Ending is mildly bitter.

Mouthfeel is great. It has a very nice thickness with soft carbonation.

Drinkability is good. I didn't have a problem finishing my glass and could have another.

Overall this was a solid nitro-stout with more flavors than most others. Worth a shot.

Stopped in to pick up some growlers and had to try the nitro TAP. The boys at pisgah were happy to oblige!

Poured a nice thick black with you nice nitro layering of the creamy caramel colored head. Lots of settling carbonation and great head retention made this one a keeper from the start. Smell was nice, caramel sugars, hints of roasted chocolate and a nice nutty presence filtered through. Very well rounded and fresh scent. The taste was right on board. Very creamy, and full flavored. Very nice smooth feel going down, awesome. Even better as it warmed! Main flavors were choclate and a nice caramel sweetness, but as it warmed, a tremendous hoopiness started to come though. Very nice dry bitter finish was wonderful. Piney aftertaste was the icing. Overall this was a very nice stout and a great effort from the boys at Pisgah. They really need some more exposure as they are doing great work there. Something also has to be said for the enviorment during this tasting, something about standing next to the pots and listening to Phish while they brew, just made it perfect!

Sampled on tap at Revolution Pizza & Ale in Charlotte.

A - Just beautiful with a deep black hue, a hint of light around the edges and a big, creamy head.

S - Cocoa with a hint of coffee.

T - Not overly flavorful. BA lists it as an American stout but I'd categorize it as more European in its balance and simplicity. Some roasted notes up front but that is quickly replaced by a chocolatey, mildly sweet middle and finish.

M - Super creamy. The nitro really does this beer justice.

D - What's not to like? This beer is smooth, rewarding and easy to drink.

Not the most attractive stout on the planet. Lighter brown than most, a little cloudy, no real head but some lacing. The smell is toasty and slightly sweet with vanilla being somewhat prominent. The taste is smooth and creamy and those same vanilla notes are there as well as some fairly nice cocoa. Slight roastiness is mostly overwhelmed by the sweeter flavors. Very smooth and creamy in the mouth, if the body were a little bigger this would be an aspecially good attribute. Quite drinkable, not overwhelming at all and goes down smoothly. Nice job.

Well, besides the color, this one was a 5 in appearance. It was a little light and brownish ruby highlights were visible without even holding it to light. Seemed black but was misleading. What was great, though, was this massive Guinness forming head that came from the bottom up. It was thick and creamy and left the most amazing rings of lacing I've seen from any beer. Smell was light and of chocolate mostly along with other roasted malts. Taste was simple and straight forward. Rich, sweet chocolate and a little hop bite that followed. I also noted a slight nutty flavor. Mouthfeel was about medium and had a light creamy texture, somewhat more of a Porter feel to it. Overall drinkability was pretty good. A well-rounded beer that doesn't have much depth and at the same time gets the job done.
