Consumed via nitro tap at the source on 07/22/2008.
So what do my eyes spy when I get there but the new Dark chocolate nitro stout. The regular Pisgah Stout dry hopped with organic chocolate and served in a nitro tap, Yummy. Poured out with a beautiful reverse waterfall of cascading chocolate brown. Dark as night and completely opaque with a lovely two inches f head on top once it had finished. Settling down to produce that glass nitro look with a decent amount off side glass lace.
The aroma was sweeter then I thought it would be. Started out with a nice roasted malt aroma, rich, with chocolate interlaced throughout the smell. Light semi sweet chocolate aroma with hints of light coffee and a touch of lactose. The flavor was quite dry, nice sweet notes of chocolate were bouncing around with an almost bitter bakers like chocolate flavor. Hints of sugar with touches of coffee and an almost smoked flavor bouncing around. Not nearly as heavy on the chocolate as I would have thought, but more of an accent to a very good beer. A medium bodied stout, not too heavy in the profile, and not overall terribly filling either. Easily a session able stout, something I would love to try on a colder night as opposed to a 100 degree day.
Overall an interesting creation from the guys. Something that is sure to be a hit as the weather turns colder, this is a welcome addition to the lineup. I love seeing all the different things they are doing up there, and this is just another classic example of it. Really a solid brew and something that should be tried.
