Named for the borderland shared by Belgium, France and Luxembourg, Moselle Blanc honors the free exchange of traditions, life and culture across borders. This beer marries the giant flavor of our classic Belgian Tripel with the complexity of white wine oak barrels. Signature Belgian notes of clove, banana and spice find new layers on top of rich oak and vanilla. Robust, complex, deep with traditions that transcend borders.

500 mL bottle. Clear golden. Smells of strong fruity wine, yeast, citrus, and a candy sweetness. Tastes of candy sweetness up front, then some white wine, then earthy yeast. Oaky and bitter. Medium heavy. I never know what I don't like about tripels, but somehow they never come together for me. Only a few pan out and this is not one of them.

This beer is almost clear and dark, honey-amber (SRM 7-10). A one-inch, foamy almond head lasts a few minutes before falling to a ring and leaving a thin veil on a PBGC Imperial-2 Snifter.
The aroma is dominated by oak and vanilla. Smoky booze lingers in the background with what might be considered bourbon. Also light is a barnyard funk. Warmth brings out a hint of orange clove, pepper, and floral notes.
Oak and vanilla again dominate in the flavor, though with amplification over the aroma. Smoky bourbon is more obvious, though still subtle, while a long, boozy finish comes in waves. The beer is more sweet than bitter initially, then later, that balance reverses. Generally, this Tripel is quite spicy and the warmer it gets, the more pronounced the oak and bourbon become.
The full body is countered by a soft, course texture similar to wool. Alcohol is higher than expected and a strong, fine carbonation is below expectations.
This is an interesting and very enjoyable beer, even though I think it misses some of the style marks. In my opinion, it is more like a wine/bourbon hybrid with carbonation. One could easily spend a long afternoon discussing this beer with friends.
