Had this on draft at Jack of the wood and at the tap room at Pisgah. Had every bit of color and head that a great pale ale should have. I was excited to have a wet hop fresh ale from local hops just a few days after it was released. Well the beer looked grea,t and upon getting a whiff, I was shocked by the lack of nose and fresh hop character. A total fail for a fresh hop beer. Its very drinkable and has a more of a malt than a hop forward character. Its an ok beer but just not what you would expect from a "fresh" hop beer. It could be that carolina hops just suck compared to other regions.

far too long since i made the trek up to black mountain i was thrilled to be able to try something new on tap. served cold and into a pint glass.
pour is a nice solid amber in color with a creamy white head of foam on top that really works out quite nicely i have to admit. fading after reaching a height of around two fingers and leaving some nice lacing down the sides of the glass.
aroma of fresh piney hops, lots of resin with hints of a slight biscuit like middle. really nicely done i have to admit. warming brings a touch of bitterness in the form of light grapefruit tones. crisp and clean with a fuller then expected feel this one goes down like candy. nice light bitter finish and a smooth, even after taste with just the right amount of dryness.
overall about as solid of a pale ale as you are going to get. very happy to be able to try this one and would definitely go for it again.

Orange gold in color. Essentially no head but thick sheets of lace all around the glass.
Musky, earthy smelling beer. Lemon citrus come through below that.
Very bright up front. Dusky and raw tasting in the middle with lots of malt body. Slight sour finish with faint bitters.
Heavy bodied beer. Lots of malt to balance the hops.
Another great beer from the folks in Black Mountain.
