12 oz pour into a pint glass on tap at the Pisgah taproom.
L – Hazy pale gold color with a 1-finger creamy, frothy, white head. Nice retention and some nice lacing down the sides of the glass.
S – Grainy wheat, lemon and orange zest, a touch of coriander, and some traditional hefe aromas like cloves and bananas mixed in, too. Very pleasant, summery aroma.
T – It starts off sweet with grainy, bready wheat and orange esters. Banana esters come in next, followed by a mildly-spicy finish with coriander, black pepper, and clove notes. Some lemon-orange tartness is evident at the very finish, as well. Really tasty.
F – Light-to-medium-bodied, great carbonation, a smooth and creamy but crisp mouthfeel, and a slightly dry, spicy, and tart finish.
O – This is a great witbier that is perfect for the summer heat. It is crisp and very drinkable while still maintaining the nice and creamy mouthfeel that good wheat-based beers have. On top of that, it smells and tastes great with a bit more complexity than your average witbier from the hefe-like banana and clove notes. I highly recommend checking out Pisgah if you’re ever in the Asheville area.
