Cask half pint at No. 7 Market Tavern, Mayfair. Pale golden colour, white head. Moderate aroma, a hint of citrus. The flavour is slightly buttery, again with notes of citrus, decent hops in the finish.

On cask at Bellflower in Selby. Pours pale copper with a small creamy head that stays a long time and leaves a creamy coating over most of the glass. Nose is lightly hoppy...classic English earthiness and summer fruits from the malt. Taste is fresh and light fruity malts that turns nicely bitter through the finish without losing its crisp light character. A very nice summer beer indeed.

Served cold from 500ml bottle into Willi Becher glass.

L) Lager-amber colour, very slight haze. Lagery bubbles and lagery thin white bubbly head.

S) Light toffee malt and a hint of something which I hope isn't chlorine.

T) Nice little bit of 'bitter' bitterness, balanced by a nice soapy malt sweetness, all with a soda-like lightness.

F) Nice and light, nicely fizzy. A well-judged bittering hops side.

O) A good light golden ale to drink cold on a warm summer day. Recommended.

 

Ripe beautiful golden chestnut color, with a decent head. Citrus fruit hop aromas. Rich flavors that linger with a bitter, dry finish. Lower in abv, but a great session or sipper. The yeast strain from 1850s brewery has been reintroduced and has gained them numerous awards since. Great all around ESB, cheers!

A 500ml bottle with a BB of May 2013. Probably purchased in a supermarket some time back. I like the Acorn brewery's classy, no-nonsense labels.

Poured into a straight pint glass. A golden hue with faint haze and light carbonation. Yields a decent head of white foam that lasts for a couple of minutes before subsiding. Some lacing. Aroma of grainy malt with hints of earthy yeast, grass, mild floral notes and stewed hops.

Tastes of light, grainy malt with a crisp bitter finish. Notes of grain, grass, earthy yeast and stewed hops. A distinctly dry bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and slightly tingly, with pleasant carbonation and good body. Somewhat astringent, with an aftertaste of grain, earthy yeast and stewed hops.

Nice - a simple, well-balanced bitter that does what it says on the tin. The aroma and flavour are subtle but satisfying, and the bitterness is spot on. Well-judged body. An easy drinking ale that I would gladly have again; worth sampling if you come across it.

On cask at the Hilden Beer Festival, 2012.

Hazy lemon with steady parchment film that sheets. Sour grain and musty lemon nose.
White scone and orange jam with orange rind hops.
Boiled orange sweet ending and gentle orange zest linger. Soft and silky, light-medium, slightly crisp, creamy.

Smooth, rounded and integrated - a seamless ale. Real hops, but with a lightness of touch. The easiest drinker of the day.

Acorn wins again.

Coming in a 500ml long-neck brown bottle, BBE 11/07, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.

A: dark golden in colour, coming with a thick, fluffy white froth that slowly breaks, like egg-shells, down to a thin cap; carbonation is moderately fizzy, pretty solid for a filtered-bottled ale.
S: floral as well as lime-flowery hops, a bit like Styrian Goldings or other English varieties, mixed smoothly with a mild flow of honey-ish, juicy pale malts. Rather restrained in aroma, but nice.
T: piney and faintly earthy bitter hoppyness dominates the palate along with an effervescent, refreshing texture; the dried-grassy and toasted flavour of malts gradually prevails, followed by a three-dimensional whole-leafy bitterness and citric hoppy flavour that expands and deepens towards the four corners of the palate, rather soothing in the finish.
M&D: the texture is lightly fizzy with a refreshing touch and light body, while the supreme and deep hop bitterness assumes a solid gravity of this thirst-quenching golden bitter.
