Tasted by a half-pint at the Swim Inn, a JDW pub in Sheffield. Served by a handpump w/ a sparkler.
A: translucent, dark copper in colour, topped with a creamy beige frothy head and mild carbonation, then leaving tight lacing behind.
S: hop resins and spiciness upfront, lively and refreshing; a deep-running scent consisting of caramel malts, burned apple-slices and a mild piney touch sits underneath. Quite standard.
T: plentiful dark fruits, burned brown sugar, and roast tea-leaves prevail upfront, quickly followed by a bitter-sweet edge of chocolates, toffee, roasted nuttiness from dark malts, while the herbal+earthy bitter edge creeps down the sides of the palates, rendering a semi-dry, tea-ish tannic undertones in the long finish.
M&D: light-bodied, the lack of carbonation is compensated for by the tannic mouthfeel. All in all, this is an easy-drinking fruity and hoppy Best Bitter.
