The fourth beer tasted at the Piglet 2 Mini-Beerfestival, Leyton, London, 24/02/06. Served by the handpump.
A: pours an extremely dark brownish hue, coming with a creamy tan head gradually settling to a thin frothy carpet retaining throughout the drink.
S: complex aroma indeed--rum, black cherry, aromatic flavoured dark chocolate chunks, smoked woodchips and roasted nuts, along with an intriguing touch of "black ink" at the back... overall, the fragrance floats above the settled porter-ness. NICE~~
T: chewy chocolates and a touch of coffeeish sour edge prevail upfront; backed by lots of sour-sweet fruity elements and finished nutty and subtly bittersweet, with a smoked maltiness and nuttiness lingering in the end. Classic and nice porter flavour.
M&D: quite smooth on the texture, but the overall body is slightly thin for a cask-conditioned dark ale. On the balance the flavour and body falls short of the promise of the aroma, but it's a very good quality porter all the same.
