Bottle was a 2006 GABF left-over that was given to me as a reward for my volunteer efforts. Thanks a million to GABF and to Water Street Brewing for the opportunity. Entered into judging in category #69B (American Style Barley Wine).
Pours a thin fine dark yellow-tan head over a dark caramel liquid. Smells piney and sherry oxidation. Solventy, but not acetone. Meady.
Taste lacks hop flavor, but full of hop rough grassy...in an empty kind of way. Really papery. Little malt to fill this beer out. Caramel and some toast. Md thick mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. No need to seek this one out. Between the three of us, at least half the bottle went unconsumed at our tasting.
