Sampled on New years Eve from home. Bottle chilled to 36 degrees in my beer cooler and poured in to a "Bud Light-Omaha" pint glass.

Poured a light copper-amber in color with really no head to speak of. Some light spotty lacing was seen. Something right off the bat wasn't right this this on. Maybe from a bad batch? The aroma is really good, just of some grains and spice. the taste was...well...horrible! Tasted very flat with bitterness. After 3 sips it was a drain pour. Guessing it was either a bad batch or just plain old as I didn't see a date on the label. Would I try it again? Yeah, as to be fair I always like to try a brew twice if I can. So much for my 'lucky 7's' as this was my number "777" beer review on here.

Aroma (3.5): Good enough aroma. Is what a wheat smells like, nothing special
Appearance (4): Good color. Cloudy, hazy, all that jazz
Taste (3.5): I like the taste of this more than most. It tastes like a good, unassuming wheat beer.
Palate (4): About what you'd expect.

Bought a 6-pack of bottles.

Pours a hazy copper color with little to no head. Smells of citrus upon opeing the bottle. I do like wheat beers, but this one has more citrus taste to it than I prefer. Smooth and easy going down.

I would buy it again but it wouldn't be my first choice for a wheat beer.

I poured this from an inch or so from above the glass giving me a small white head above a clear honey colored beer with some dark cloudiness hanging in the middle of the glass.

The aroma is light and dominated by lemon, yet you can sense of citrus fruits, pine, and more in the background.

The taste is very much like the aroma, light but mostly lemony hops with other citrus, pine, and even a slight grass in the background.

A dry aftertaste with a slight citrus hanging around.

Not bad not not really worth drinking either, I think I'd rather spend my time drinking something else.

Appearance: Pours as you would expect a wheat beer to, with a smaller head. It's a toasted, golden colored brew.

Smell: There's a strong fruity aroma, hard to place. Citrus-like, probably lemon rind. Back-notes of spice, very slight. Hard to detect the hops/malt characteristics.

Taste: It isn't what you'd expect, but it is refreshingly fruity/spicy. Definitely not what one would classically expect from the style, but it's drinkable, and a nice change.

Mouthfeel: Doesn't feel like a Belgian style wheat. Seems under-carbonated. Mouthfeel doesn't contribute anything positive.

Overall: Not exactly true to the style. The fruit and spice notes are definitely interesting. I wish the flavor had been less one note. I think the recipe has definite potential if the malt and hop flavors weren't so underrepresented.

Wish they had taken it further and just turned it into a citrus-style lambic. Considering I wanted/expected what a Belgian Stlye/Wheat beer would deliver, would not buy this again, but I do applaud Olde Main for a truly different style brew.

(I tasted in both a Pint and in a taller cylinder; better in the taller glass with it's gradually wider opening)

A: cloudy yellow/straw color with a very little head.

S: Weird smell for Witbeer, almost a skunky smell.

T: Not very flavorful, sort of a chamomile taste and a little citrus.

M: little or no carbonation, flavor does stick around for a decent time but nothing here that is amazing. Fairly average.

D: I try to support my Iowa breweries, but this is a beer that I will not be purchasing again. I have not yet tried any other beers from Old Main, but I will be trying their pale ale later on.

Hazy orange, murky with all the stirred up yeast sediment. Thin cap of white foam with a collar at its edges, random arcs of lacing. The skim breaks after awhile, leaving the usual ring around the edges.

Orange and definite cinnamon, reminds me of snickerdoodle cookies, more in the aroma than taste. Sweet spices, cardamom possibly, not getting much coriander but that's ok. Warm and inviting.

Flavor is pleasant, not harsh or sour at all. Twang from the orange juice, and a flash of earthy coriander. Hint of popcorn kernel is in there, with a melange of mildly floral tea-like spices (probably chamomile). Very light bodied and mellow, could use a little more body and carbonation. An easy drinker for a warm summer night.

Nothing too out of bounds, just some unique spices and juicy orange. Maybe there was an infected batch in the past? It's not bad at all.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a Weizen glass. Pours a slightly hazed murky brownish/orange. Smells like Tang with lemon juice, not very appealing. Tastes like sour lemon/lime, almost like that lime juice in the little plastic lime shaped bottle, with sour orange and rhubarb mixed with ginger ale. Very unbalanced, very tangy on the palate and almost a drain pour. This is the second failed attempt from this brewery that I have tried, the other was their Scottish Ale. Please brew better beer for IA.

Pours orangish in color, almost no head. Doesn't taste right - almost like a ginger flavor, highly unappealing. I would definitely recommend avoiding this one, it doesn't taste like beer - more like some sort of bad soda. There are no beer flavors here, only some strange spice notes that don't have anything to back them up.

Pours a cloudy yellow color, nice carbonation, nice little fizzy white head, with some minimal sticky lacing left behind. The nose is malty, with some yeast, coriander, some citrus. The taste is sweet, malty, yeast, with some slight nutmeg, and citrus. Medium body. Drinkable, I like this one, nice little twist.

My bottle says dinkey wheat and it's supposed to be a belgian style ale but whatever, this poured with just a few pathetic bubbles on the head.

The color was fine and the aroma was fairly typical of begian style ales, slightly fruity but more of canned fruit i'd say.

The taste was ok. This beer was obviously filtered and I feel that this style of beer suffers without the presence of yeast in the bottle and filtering it makes it bland.

The undercarbonation created a lack of acidity that put this beer out of the style category where there should be some tartness and a boatload of carbonation.

I finished this but am disappointed that I bought a sixer.

This is getting a B+? Are you people on crack?

Pours fine, I guess. Its cloudiness is a bit too intense--it doesn't look unflitered so much as it looked infected. Small head.

Smells of astringent fruit juice, black pepper, and lemon floorcleaner.

Oh goodie it tastes just like it smells! Fake candy sweetness, imitation orange and lemon zest, strong chemical cleaners, and tons of wheatmalt pepper. All the flavors hit you all at once.

Seltzery body leads to almost immediate indigestion. Drain pour.

I mean, seriously, Olde Main, what did you think you were doing by bottling this and releasing it to the general public? You realize that when Iowans see a locally brewed beer that they're more likely to buy that beer than other crafts, right? And you realize that by selling them this abomination you could very well be turning them off of good craft beer, right? This is not only an insult to the Iowa beer scene; it's an insult to the entire craft beer community.

12 oz bottle

A - Pours a cloudy golden color, at times almost reminding me of lemonade. The head was very quick to form, and left a film. Looks very effervescent.

S - A combination of the belgian wit yeast and an almost lemony background. The spices are very subdued.

T - Starts nice and easy with a light mix of some malt notes and mostly a yeasty overtone. Mid-stream some of the spices come into play, but aren't as assertive as I would like. Finishes with a taste that I don't much go for. Extremely tart. I couldn't pin in on something other than some sort of tart fruit.

M - Not lacking body for a witbier, thats for sure. The carbonation sting is most certainly present.

D - Easy drinking and light. Good for the summer months. Great for pairing with a social activity. Not hard to drink more than a few.

I love witbiers, and I would love to support the local brewery. But in this case, my review is somewhat negative. I've had this on draft at the brewery and much more enjoyed it there, so perhaps this is an abomination of the bottle.

I have had The Dinkey Wheat from a bottle and on tap. This is an all-around great Belgian White!

Poured into a glass, this beer has a great bright orange, almost yellow color with very little foam.

Heavy smell of citrus and spice.

The distinct taste of coriander plus orange citrus makes for a most appealing sweet flavor.

A smooth and sweet beer with "POUNDABILITY"!

My opinion:
Not your occasional beer. Great for out-to-eat, bar scene, after work or take to a party. Until recently, consumers could only drink Dinkey Wheat
on tap or growler. It's now available in 6 packs.

Lightly foggy orange-amber with one of the smallest heads that I've seen in quite some time. An increasingly elevated pour resulted in no more than a sliver of eggshell colored foam that is now almost gone (but never disappears completely). Forget about lace. Not a good start for a beer from a brewpub that I've had issues with before.

Even though the nose isn't jumping out of the glass, it's pleasant enough. Orange peel is easily appreciated and coriander is much less obvious. No chamomile, though. As for the fourth 'secret ingredient'... no guesses yet.

Dinkey Wheat is an average witbier on its best day. The base beer is a little grain-like and the added ingredients don't 'POP' like they should. The flavors are on the muddled side, although it is possible to pick out the orange and the coriander. Chamomile is a pretty distinctive flavor and is one that I typically don't care for. Still not appreciating it.

It's possible that the fourth ingredient is orange juice (even though the beer isn't orange juicy). I say that because the label reads 'ale brewed with spices and juice'. In the final reckoning, there isn't enough delineation or separation of flavors to make a credible guess. Looks like the secret ingredient will have to remain secret.

The mouthfeel teeters on the edge of wateriness, finally tipping over on the swallow. More carbonation would have helped. Brewing rule #12: a lacklusterly flavored beer should not be given a lackluster mouthfeel.

Dinkey Wheat was named after the small train that used to run from Downtown Ames to the Iowa State campus. It's far from a memorable wit, but it's a damn sight better than the handful of Olde Main beers that I've had at the brewpub. Kudos to the brewers for having the confidence to begin bottling. They need to keep tinkering, though.

Served on-tap in a pint glass. Often with a slice of orange (which I ignore).

A self-described "Belgian-style wheat ale", this has a nice-looking cloudy-orange color, with an aroma and taste of citrus (mostly orange) and wheat. Medium-bodied and smooth, though with a slightly "grainy" feel, yet "softer" than many other unfiltered wheat beers. Appearance-wise this is probably the most distinctive of Olde Main's offerings. And it's also a very solid beer. Probably the most accessable of their year-round offerings.

Wow, I'm the first to review this. My friends beat me to this place and came back singing praises of their Wheat Beer. I wasn't let down. This beer has orange peel overtones and coriander, and it claims a super secret ingredient, too. Very smooth easy to drink, and a great mouthfeel. A great offering from this place, which is more than I can say about some of their other brews...
