$14.99 per bottle. Served cool into a tulip. 1,550th review. Best before August 2023.
Appearance -Virtually black coming out of the bottle and into the glass. Pours two big fluffy fingers of light tan head. Burns off leaving a half finger of frothy goodness after a minute or two. Minimal lacing.
Smell - Aromatics of vanilla, oak, bourbon and treacle. Hints of cocoa powder and milk chocolate. Refined aroma.
Taste - Initially quite sweet like a milk stout with milk chocolate sweetness, cocoa powder, subtle wood and some vanilla with only the slightest suggestion of bourbon. Tastes like a much lower ABV beer as the bourbon is very well hidden. Mocha-esque as well, bridging chocolate and and coffee.
Mouthfeel - Thick and sticky, slightly harsh feel on the tongue is one of the few indications of the strength of this beer, slight warmness in the back of the throat after a few sips as well.
Overall - A pretty damn good and smooth imperial stout that leans sweet, this is nonetheless very refined and an enjoyable sipper. Worth trying once with a partner, but given the hefty price tag, I'm unlikely to come back to it.
