SRM 30-35 (very dark brown) with a one-inch, creamy beige head that reduces to one-half inch quickly, then lingers above a well-carbonated Ale. A fine coating of lace augments the Gordon thistle glass. While the color is not quite to style, it still makes for a fine looking beer.
Roasted malt is accentuated by sweet caramel, followed by sweet chocolate and raspberry.
This is a very sweet Ale, yet deeply roasted malt is still quite evident. Caramel with some berries and sweet lactose fill the middle, while tobacco enters in the follow through. A lingering finish includes light sour notes. Stone fruits and bitter black coffee become evident with warmth.
A full-bodied beer with modest carbonation with a smooth, almost silken texture. The alcohol is as expected though well above style.
An uncomplicated offering fitting for a relaxing afternoon.

A dark amber, brown ale, a beige head leaving lots of lacing.
A definitive smell of burnt wood, tar and green cheese. Some sweet old dried fruits, wet cement.
A taste of raw concrete mixed with fermented raisins, sherry and madeira. Rather sour.
Medium carbonated, a dry wine-like feeling.
The box said best before like three months ago. Tend to agree, it must have been better. I have mixed feelings.

Note: This is not the former Island Cask which was a amber colored ale. This is a Scottish Stout.
Looks nice, a deep black/red color with a big beige/white head. Really nice packaging and bottle. Feels really luxorious.
Smells nicely, some Islay whisky and some rosted malts. Nice smell, but without the Islay whisky notes it would be pretty anonymous.
Taste is slightly sourish but not in a bad way. Notes of hardly rosted malts and a slightly hoppy character. Not dry enough to be a nice stout though.
I have mixed emotions about this one. It's not bad, but not good enough.
