Draught @ Opa-Opa. This one poured a dark, yet clear ruby-tinged amber color. There was just a wisp of an off-white head that left no lacing. There was a bit of alcohol to the nose, as well as some sweet malts. Maybe some fruits. The taste is a bit harsh. The tastes were astringent, some sweet alcohol, and some sweet malts. Some fruits in there also. I was surprised at the harshness of this beer. Their DIPA is quite good, and I was amazed that this one bordered on bad.

pours an attractive ruby color with a light tan head that leaves chunks on the glass and retains okay.

aroma is faint and mostly of caramel, and some fruity esters.

taste is sweet of caramel, maple syrup, raisins and a bit of nuttiness. very little hop presence. a bit of booze, but mostly sweet.

mouthfeel is a bit oily, with a light-medium body and ample carbonation.

very sweet and sticky, but other than that, its ok. lacking a bit of complexity maybe, but the booze is integrated well which makes for a drinkable enough beer.

Had on tap last night at the Brewery in Southampton, Mass.

Pours a deeper amber color with a slightly off white head that dissipates quickly. Leaves a little bit of lacing down the glass

Smells strongly of sweet malts and alcohol with hints of citrus in the mix.

I'm really hoping that this was a bad batch because this beer tasted horrible. It tastes of overly sweet malts, high fructose corn syrup and alcohol.

Mouthfeel was syrupy and light carbonation

This is the worst offering I've had from Opa Opa, but like I said it may have been a bad batch. All I could get out of it was sugar, syrup and booze. I actually only took two sips from it before I told the bartended to get rid of it for me, luckily she offered to replace it with anything else that I wanted.

Deep, garnet color with a tan lacing. lacings are wispy and persistent...

Green grape esters with vanilla, caramel, tart raison in the nose....

Overripe prune, date, burnt caramel, sugar, sour dough and cherry up front with a firm malt body...bitter hops mid sip and gently throughout the finish...sublimely balanced...

Thick, warming (from the alcohol) mouthfeel...quite drinkable for the high percentage...

This gem was the result of a hop shortage and ended up being an extremely well balanced, high gravity amber ale. I hope that Opa Opa continues to produce this delightful brew!

Growler filled at the brewpub recently.

First imperial pint pours with a 1/2" beige head, with the head lasting nicely and ample slow-falling lace. Brew is crystal clear deep red, with an aroma of sweetness, fruits, and alcohol. Taste follows the nose, sweet from the start, peeks of fruit in the middle, and ample alcoholic warming at the close. Mouthfeel is a bit cloying, maybe missing some hoppiness, and drinkability is pretty good.

As I understand it, this brew is a hops-shortage temporary replacement for the Warthog DIPA. Could use a bit more hops than what it currently has, I think, but reasons for being what it is are sound and reasonable.
