Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a medium brown color with a small head of tan colored foam. The head has a moderate level of retention, fading over time and leaving a touch of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heavy of a roasted malt smell mixed with some molasses and caramel. Along with these smells comes a strong cola smell as well as a touch of nut and a bit of coffee.
Taste – The taste starts with a sweet cola and molasses lightly toasted and roasted malt flavor paired with a touch of caramel. As the taste advances a light nut joins in, while a bit of the sweetness of caramel and molasses fade a tad. Toward the end, a bit of earth and a surge of the sweetness come to the flavor profile, leaving one with a somewhat weakly roasty and rather sweet taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium and slightly more chewy with a moderate level of carbonation. Pretty decent for the style and makes for a decently easy drinker.
Overall – OK. A bit sweet and not really all that roasty. Decent, but nothing to really go out of your way for.

A strong pour from a 16-oz. can was needed to reach a finger of tan creamy foam with long retention and irregular islands of lace. Hazy translucent mousey brown color, orange amber in front of light.

Rich malty smell both sweet and roasted. Toasted bread and yeasty dough combine. Boiled peanuts with baked apples and pears emerge. A hot spicy bite in the background appears when inhaled deeply.

Semi-sweet with low bitterness at first, this beer somehow skips to semi-dry with that spicy bite from the smell bumping the bitterness to above average towards the finish. Items from the smell are subdued yet still in place with sweet malt standing out. A fast and clean finish (almost Lager-like) leads to a spicy aftertaste as herbal hops make their presents known. A hint of astringency wafts by.

Light on the body and well carbonated throughout, session-able and well flavored. Interesting ride of sweet to dryness with the spicy bitterness building all along. Lots of taste packed into a lighter body.
Canned on 11/15/19.
