a downright heavy double ipa that i reckon was the worst beer i had in here, in any event it was my personal least favorite, its harsh in the wrong places and weighty as they go, this felt like work to drink through, which surprised me because i like the other hoppy stuff i have had from them pretty well. clear sticky honey colored from the tap, fashioned in the west coast style, smells sort of peachy, fragrantly hoppy but also sweet for such a pale malt base, a bit of a clash is brewing there, some vegetal greenness from the hops too. the flavor is sweet up front and then intensely bitter later on, from one extreme to the other, perhaps a bit too dramatic on the trajectory there. the hops taste fresh but feel oily and dense to me before they get bitter, some orchard fruit and a little pine in here, it would be pleasant in a lower dose. the grain has a heaviness too for its light color, and this is just a lot of beer in the glass, especially when it warms up and the booze comes out a bit. not bad by any stretch, but well below my expectations and not at the level of their other hoppy beers i have had. too much this time of year down in texas where its so darn hot.
