A: Black. 1/2 finger of mocha head that quickly went away.

S: The nose on this one was kind of subdued. Roasted malt, chocolate, Slight hint of whatever this was aged in. Whiskey?

T: Chocolate and coffee. The malt is ever present as well. The finish was weird as it mellowed out and went into a woody taste. 3 stage beer.

M: On the full side but by no means motor oil. Had a very distinct cask mouth feel. Which is good.

D: Took me an hour and a half to drink this pint. Definitely a nice winter sipper. On the pricy side as well $10/pint. A nice treat but I don't think I would get it again at that price. Good effort from Middle Ages.

A: Jet black body with dark mocha colored lacing but no real head. To be expected from a cask beer.

S: Bourbon leads its friends vanilla and roasted malt on the path from this beer to my nose.

T: The taste is very strong dark chocolate. It almost tastes like cocoa powder was added. There is a bunch of roasted malt in there and it ends with a slight liquor flavor at the end. There are powerful woody undertones.

M: Very full bodied but it finishes lighter than it starts.

D: Very good drinkability but it leaves a slightly harsh roasted aftertaste.

Served in a 10 oz. wineglass as part of a Middle Ages night at Barcade in Williamsberg; cola colored with a thin head. Subtle smells of molasses and chocolate. Definitely was not expecting this to be great, but my first sip opened my eyes to this brewery from Syracuse. BIG dark chocolate flavor mixed with black coffee (which is what I'm looking for in an Imperial Stout), with a bitter fruity finish (much like cacao, but with hints of raisin and currant) tempered by the oak, and this instantly a great, flavorwise, up there with Old Rasputin. One's enough, especially with the high ABV (9.5%) and the way it coated my mouth. Despite the raisiny notes, it left me bitter, and wanting to try something else for my second drink. I would have given it a lower drinkability score, but for the masterful masking of the alcohol -- drinks like a dubbel, hits like a trippel.
