i dont recall too many lagers from middle ages over the years, if any, so i was excited to see something like this on their menu when we were in. its a little heavier than a lot of german pils types, but its full of flavor, not overly refined, and still very drinkable, especially next to some of the big sturdy darker brews we were enjoying in here. its golden and bright in the glass even though its not quite sparkling looking in terms of clarity or carbonation. it smells and tastes like a european pils, i get the german lager yeast through a slightly more substantial malt base, maybe some lighter crystal malt in with the pils, as it has a bit more sweetness and body than are common in the style, but it still fits within what i am looking for in one of these. its got more hops in the taste than the aroma, spicy noble types, less limey and grassy than saaz, so maybe others in the mix, softly vegetal with a little tea-like herbal thing to it, perfectly proportioned. i think it could be a touch drier, this isnt as crisp and refreshing as i wanted it to be, even though the flavor is distinct and nice, its just not as drinkable as it should be. that said, its a solid offering, a nice lager for colder weather, and a little something different from these guys. enjoyable.
