Wired Straight Stout
Five Seasons Prado

Had this on tap at the brewpub in Atlanta. Nice inky-black color with a lovely, creamy head. Served in a stumpy snifter perfect for this imperial stout.

The nose was chock full o'coffee and oatmeal, which makes perfect sense since according to the menu description they use "pounds and pounds" of coffee from the Data Plantation in Costa Rica.

Incredibly smooth flavor. High abv, however it's very subtle. Nice balance of maltiness and what else? Coffee.

Bready and chewy mouthfeel. Creamy bath for the tongue. Modest alcohol in the finish. A nice effort from this Atlanta brewpub.

This looks exactly the way a stout should - opaque sable color with a thick tan head that dissipates slowly. Aroma has strong coffee overtones with burnt or smoky hints. Burnt coffee flavor dominates the taste, but the classic stout flavor comes through. It is almost like drinking spiked, cold coffee rather than beer. This is a good after-dinner drink.

Comes in a snifter and is dark black with a small tan head.

Aroma is pretty much rich roasted coffee, and powerful, there's no mistaking the aroma here. A bit of chocolate as well.

Full bodied stout, quite smooth. Taste is plenty of dark roasted coffee with some chocolate swirling around in there as well. A bit of a sweet, possibly caramel flavor shows up in the middle then finishes with a lovely roasted aftertaste.

A fine stout, once again Five Seasons fails to disappoint.

P.S.-From what I've heard this is also Terrapin's "wake and bake" stout just under a different name. If so, Terrapin has come up with another fine brew.

A very tasty beer, although it tasted more like a coffee dry stout than an imperial stout. I won’t hold that against it. Nice roastiness and a bit of chocolate from the malt and a very fresh, well-roasted coffee aroma and flavor. The body is very dark and the head is a nice creamy tan. The body is full enough, but not too full.

Served on-draft in a small snifter. Solid black with mahogany highlights, a very small creamy tan head and little head retention or lacing. Smells of slightly sweet toasted malts and lots of dark coffee. Flavors begin with sweet toasted malts, but the taste buds are rapidly overtaken with strong roasted coffee essence (the beer is brewed with Costa Rican coffee). The beer is finished with slightly bitter hops and lots of drying roasted coffee. Medium body with good creaminess from the use of oatmeal.

Interesting, but a bit of a one-note-wonder in my opinion. Weak in head development and retention, and the aroma & flavors are ultimately over-balanced by the coffee.
