8.5% ABV, 65 ibu.
A - dark, so as the brown head.
S - cocoa, coffee, really roasty malt, bit of sweetness, dry fruit, raisin.
T - thick creamy, coated tongue, not much appearance of the chili tho, smooth And creamy on the palate, and I enjoyed the bitterness!
O - when you treat it as an regular imperial stout, it's was great! Heat down to the throat, not sure it was the chili spiced or the alcohol, in a good way.

My first chili beer. Spicy after taste but strong roasted malt and alcohol dominate first taste. Good beer but weird.. I guess that's chili

Appearance - Pours a dark brown with four fingers of dense tan head.
Smell - roasted malts, cocoa, hint of chili peppers, earthy hops.
Taste - Taste is predominately dominated by the roasted malts and cocoa. The chili peppers are lost by the dominance of the roasted malts and cocoa (they are in there towards the end but very subtle). The earthy hops round out the brew.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes with a pleasant bitterness from the cocoa and roasted malts.
Overall - A so-so chile beer. I was hoping the chili peppers would of given some more spicy notes in this brew. Some major adjustments to this one would make it more true to the style.

Dark brown/black pour with mocha cream head that has a medium persistence
Smells like sweet toasted malts, cocoa, black pepper, and old vegetables. Interesting, but not all that appealing!
Taste Similar to the smell, dark malts, black pepper, cooked green peppers and heavy on vegetable ash.
Carbonation is medium, but high for a stout. body is slightly more than medium. little bit of burn from the alcohol and spices. The finish is drying and unpleasantly ashy! slight heat from the chilies in the back of the throat.
Hmmm... big thumbs down for me. I admire the uniqueness of this.I just cant get over this ashy taste. Especially while staring into Smaug's firery eyes. The chilies are a nice idea, but they are lost in the mess and only peek through late in the finish with a slight burn.
Have you ever accidentally drank a beer at a party that people were throwing their cigarette butts into??? This is the next best thing!

650ml bottle, made with chili peppers, an appropriate adjunct ingredient for a beer named as such - I had to watch that Colbert segment last month where 'Smaug' was the scheduled guest a few times, just to wrap my feeble brain around it.
This beer pours a pretty solid charcoal black, with subtle basal cola edges, and three fat fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly tan head, which leaves some layered limestone cliff lace around the glass as it slowly recedes.
It smells of chalky, bittersweet cocoa powder, grainy caramel malt, estery black licorice, dried dark fruit - prunes and salty raisins, mostly - and a small, but edgy green pepper heat. The taste falls quite in line - with the more bitter than sweet chocolate, gritty caramel/toffee, woodsy vanilla, fading Nordic licorice, wet dark bread, subtle black orchard fruit, still understated pepper warmth, and an even meeker (in disposition, not in eventual strength, I gather) alcohol presence.
The bubbles are laid-back, but still supportive in their genial frothiness, the body a solid medium-heavy weight for the underlying style, and kind of smooth, the chili peppers choosing this particular juncture to strut their stuff (perhaps due to the attendant warming). It finishes off-dry, the cocoa, caramel, ethereal fruit, and vanilla raising shields against the moderately burgeoning spice and alcohol.
A decent amped-up dry stout, with the addition of some dragon-friendly chili heat, though said beast must be snoozing, and barely emitting a few wisps of benign fiery tendrils, as that's how it comes off here. Easy to drink, overall, but don't go in expecting this brew to burn down your palate and/or town.
