From a 50 cl bottle, this brew pours a deep brown color with a tan head. The color is borderline black, but not quite there. The aroma is all about specialty grains. Serious chocolate malt aromas are the centerpiece, with some less roasted, caramel-like smells as well (Vienna?). The taste is initially quite sweet, with a lot of malt flavor. Hops are nearly non-existent in flavor. Despite the sweetness, the beer never really becomes cloying. Full in body, with relatively little carbonation, this is a solidly good beer. It's a bit too sweet for the style (Italian-style Swartz?). There's a little huskiness in the mid-taste that's somewhat distracting as well. All in all, though, this is a fine brew.

The color it is not exactly black. It is more a very dark mahogany red. The head is brown, not very compact,
Smell of malt, with average toasted notes. Dusty. Then some bitter notes, chicory-like.
The taste is less sweet than you can expect: coffee, milk-coffee, quite creamy. Toasted and bitter liquorice.
Maybe a little weak.
Medium body. Quite bitter aftertaste, with chicory, liquorice, and perhaps even hints of rhubarb.
