On-tap at the brewpub.
Pours a slightly hazy amber-brown color with a half-finger off-white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving light lacing. The beer sure doesn't look very pale and the head is very short-lived for a Belgian Pale.
Smells of sweet dark malts with very light hints of bread-like aromas. Also present are mild amounts of pears and slightly stronger amounts of herbal and citrus hops.
Tastes similar to how it smells. Dark malt flavors with moderate amounts of sweetness kick things off. Midway through the sip the flavors are beefed up a bit with the addition of bready flavors and syrupy pears. Right before the end of the sip hints of leafy hops make a brief appearance before fading into a mildly bitter finish.
Mouthfeel is good. It's got a smooth thickness with moderate carbonation.
Drinkability is OK. I didn't have a problem finishing my glass however I'm not sure about another.
Overall this really didn't fit the bill for a Belgian Pale. It wasn't a bad beer but expect more of a dubbel if you give it a shot.
