Appearance – Beautiful bright dark orange with a lovely head that left nice pits of foam on top of the liquid as it dissipated.

Smell – The light, citrus hops were nicely complimented by sweetish malt notes.

Taste – This one is very crisp. The flavors work well and are quite harmonious. There is the strong citrus hops from the nose, and the malts come out bigger. They are deep and rich and rightly balanced.

Mouthfeel – This was a wonderful melody of malt and hop flavors which created a terrific balance in the mouth. This medium-bodied beer was crisp and clean with a pleasant, dry finish.

Drinkability – This was an incredible ale that was quite surprising. It was very refreshing, and I would highly recommend trying if you’re in the area and they have it available.

Comments – Sam Smith’s Pure Brewed Lager is the only example of this style that I think rates as well as this, and I have posted 60+ Pale Lager reviews on this site to date. This is a winner. Every macro VP in the country should set aside a few hours to sit down at this pub and take their time to drink a pint of this lager.

I was really disapointed when I realized that Max Lager's was only bringing Max Pale (an only ok APA) and a lager to the Classic City Brew Fest. I should have known better. Quite frankly, this is probably the best pale lager I've ever had. The malt is strong enough to taste (tiniest hints of caramel) but not heavy. There is very low hop bitterness, but as I've said in other reviews, unless it's Saaz or the other hops common in Pilsners, I find strong hopping in a lager off-putting. This is an excellent and well-crafted lager.
