Sampled at the 7th Annual Kingdom of Fife Beer Festival, Glenrothes.
Pours a very very very dark ruby with a minimal bubbly head but I'll chock that up to the high abv and the gravity-fed cask. Strong dark fruit notes with a faint alcohol warmth in the nose. Not very stout-like. Strong notes of plum in the taste and other dark fruits with almost no roasted bitterness to speak of. Odd. The festival guide (as well some websites) list this as being a stout, but I don't see it at all. It tastes more like a strong dark mild to me along the lines of Sarah Hughes. Smooth and nice mouthfeel. The abv brings down the drinkability of this "stout". If you want a stout, look elsewhere. If you want a potent dark mild, then this might be your beer.
