2 Tones IPA sure looks nice initially. It’s gold in color and is moderately hazy. It’s a brighter looking gold color. That’s promising. I’m not a huge fan of the copper colored IPAs that are swamped with caramel malt. A light collection of white bubbles covers the top. It’s not very tall, just covering the surface. They disappear quickly. Nice looking beer!
The nose is likewise impressive. It kicks off with a blast of citric hops. Pineapple and grapefruit scents are most notable. There’s definitely a grassy, slightly earthy hop scent that emerges. Almost smells like some sort of noble hop. I’m not sure what the hop bill is, but it’s very aromatic and smells delicious. While it does smell darn tasty, it’s not very diverse. I’m not getting much beyond hops, so it’s a little one-dimensional. Having said that, more scents might not create a better overall scent. It smells good! Alcohol is very light in the mix and goes unnoticed.
Yeah, this is definitely tasty beer! If you’re into hoppy IPAs, check this one out. It’s a winner! The hops really blast the palate from the first sip. They’re strong and very flavorful. Citric flavors dominate the mix. White grapefruit is definitely king with pineapple and orange following. It does seem a little grassy. Not sure if a noble hop is in here or not, but it wouldn’t surprise me. It’s very, very bitter and dry. If there’s a knock, it’s almost a little too bitter. There really isn’t a great deal of malt flavor to balance things out much. I prefer hop forward IPAs, so I’m alright with that. Alcohol isn’t much of a factor. Finishes citrusy, bitter, and very dry.
The body is light medium, soft, and smooth. It’s definitely easy drinking. Honestly, it goes down so easy it’s scary. I won’t finish this growler tonight, but I could probably be convinced to try. Impressive.
2 Tones IPA is the most recent in an impressive line of Barley’s Homebrewing Contest Winners. I haven’t tried any of the beers it competed against, but 2 Tones IPA is darn good! I’m not surprised at all that it won, and it really does continue Barley’s nice roster of contest winners. I don’t know the 2 fellas named Tony who brewed this beer, but they should keep up the nice work…and figure out a way to bring more beer to the masses. Good stuff!

Poured from growler acquired from Barley's Brewing Company. Cloudy, light orange in color. Almost has the appearance of a hefe.
Aroma is of dank soaked citrus fruits. Lots of fruity juicy resiny hoppiness. Not an extremely potent aroma, more so a smooth balance of hop aromas, no malt or alcohol present. A slight touch of yeast is present.
A bang of fruity danky hops hits you on the initial flavor. It lingers... it's all hop flavor. The bitterness doesn't appear until the aftertaste. Very smooth and pleasant, succulent hops all over. Drinks like a session ale, but has all the right hop (and lack of malt) characteristics of a great west coast IPA . Amazing flavor. All hops on the burp, love it.
This beer lacks a bit in mouthfeel, perhaps due to a small malt bill. Still, the slickness of the hops makes up for whatever is missing.
Overall, I found this beer to be extremely drinkable. It's a solid rendition of a dry super hopped west coast IPA, and to add to that it's a homebrew recipe.
