This is Belching Beaver's twin cousin from another mother. Peanut butter stouts simply should not be in the same category as bourbon Barrel aged stouts or milk stouts.

We need a peanut butter stout category.

Let's have a practical review here.
Think about a good quality stout. Now grab a jar of peanut butter, dip a spoon in, slap that on your tongue and drink that delicious stout.

If that sounds gross to you, then this beer is not for you. But, you had a bit of a pavlovian response or even actually found yourself with a bit of drool clinging to your lower lip then drink this beer.

Thanks be to the genius who thought "stout" "peanut butter" "together".

My taste buds are so happy.

On tap at Barley's, Columbus, Ohio; served in a snifter. Appearance of motor oil, with a thin ring of light tan head and a ruby highlight or two when placed under the booth lamp. Bourbon barrel and hints of black cherry greet the nose. Flavors of bourbon and cherry chocolate, with notes of peanut butter in the background. Mouthfeel is not quite as heavy as I was expecting. There is a bit of carbonation that provides some lightness and drinkability. Still, this one is quite a treat. Plus I love the fact that they're paying homage to one of the greatest Buckeye coaches ever to grace the sidelines at the 'Shoe. O-H! I-O!

On tap at the brewery, served in a snifter.

Appearance: Very dark brown, nearly black, light brown head, left some lacing.

Nose: Sweet dark chocolate and peanut butter — this is the finest aspect of this excellent ale.

Mouthfeel: Medium

Attack: Dark roast, chocolate.

Finish: Peanut butter, and roast bitterness.

Overall: Very good. Can’t agree that it’s quite world class — there’s some terribly stiff competition in that realm — but very good. Nice job, Barley’s!

On tap at the source.

A - Dark pour with toffee colored lacing and low carbonation.

S - Peanut butter and chocolate are strong on the nose with no alcohol presence and low Bourbon.

T - In the beginning it's all peanut butter and chocolate but as the beer warms and you work through the pour, the peanut butter presence lessons and allows a little Bourbon to poke through.

M - Big medium body.

O - This is a really enjoyable beer.

deep and rich, more complex than other peanut butter stouts. Just a sipping beer and no more than one a night

I tried this beer as part of a flight at the brewery. It poured an opaque dark with thin tan ring head that did not leave any lace. The scent had bourbon, chocolate and hints of peanuts. The tastes was nicely balanced and easy to drink with chocolate and peanut butter base with bourbon highlights. The mouthfeel was fuller in body with smooth carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

This might be Columbus’s best beer. Bourbon dominates in the nose and the taste. Hints of peanut butter in the taste as well as a velvety mouthfeel make this an outstanding offering.

Tried this at the recent Columbus winter beerfest. Pours nearly black in color with a huge foamy tan brown layer on top. Aroma of sweet malts and peanut butter.

Barley's nailed the Buckeye flavor with this one. It's big on peanut butter and sweet, sticky malt. There is some chocolate present in the background. A touch of bourbon, but not much at all. The peanut butter and buckeye flavors seem to mask it, or possibly the bourbon flavor is subdued to begin with.

Not quite as dense and heavy as I expected it to be, but it's still a very sturdy and delicious beer. One of my favorites from the event.

Overall, its an amazingly tasty brew. I'm surprised we don't see more chocolate/peanut butter stouts in the big bustling world of craft beer.
