On draught at Ale House #1 (05/07). I really didnt think this one would come around again considering I first heard of it 5 years ago and never saw it in rotation since. Needless to say it was a pleasant surprise to find it over the weekend. The beer is a flat black color with a medium ivory colored head that retains pretty well. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of sweet malt and roasted coffee beans. Rich, smooth body with a nice roasted character. Flavors of malt, coffee and sweet chocolate, along with a touch of hops. The finish is smooth and milky with a sweet malt and chocolate flavor. Leaves a bit of bitter coffee on the tongue in the end. Solid all around.

Black, with a few mahogany highlights. Thick creamy off-white head, holds together for a few minutes, then fades. An average looker.
A bit of roasty aroma, and milk chocolate. Not very much in the nose at all.
Roasty and dry, with a bit of citrusy bitterness in the background. A little more milk chocolate comes out as it warms.
Medium body. Pretty simple, not much really stood out.

Dark dark brown. Tannish head is large and fluffy, highly retentive as well, and leaves thin lacing.
Nose leaves something to be desired. Slight roast with a tootsie roll type of aroma. Not much else but a bit of sour milk.
Very one dimensional. Again slightly roasted with a milk chocolate mid palate that leads toward bitter bakers chocolate and black tea at the finish. Finish is dry and long. Very little in way of any fruit. Not one I would go out of way to find.

This beer was a dark amber color and formed a small light tan head that left trace lace as it subsided. An aroma of malt, hops and some caramel elements. A flavor of malt, hops and caramel. The finish was fairly light for the style and had some bitterness. This is a beer named after one of the brewers that they had in the featured "cask conditioned" flask they keep at the bar. I loved the flavor and hope they decide to include it in their regular rotation. Another side note is that the style may change in the future.
