On tap @ Old Capitol.
Hazy golden orange. Off-white, soapsud-like head.
Aroma is biscuity malt and a pretty standard hop profile. Nothing too enticing.. Light caramel malt flavor balanced by a fair share of hops. Decent hop bitterness present in the aftertaste also. A bit oily in the mouth, but the carbonation is just about right.
Not bad, but I expect a bit more from my IPAs.

This was a somewhat disappointing IPA, but it wasn't bad by any means. The menu says that it is hopped up on Centennials, but there just aren't enough for a hophead such as myself, or even for my hop-despising drinking buddy.
The appearance was good. It pours to a light golden color, quite clear, with a nice fluffy white head. Has a moderate carbonation. Looks good.
The smell is where I started to be let down. The hops are definitely there, but they don't seem to stand-out from the buttery caramel malt character. I can detect the bitterness in the nose, but the hop aromas are sorely lacking it seems.
The taste is good. It has a nice light bitterness to it, but some more late-boil hops and dry hopping would do this thing QUITE nicely (the Firkin IPA, for instance, is quite divine). Aside from the hops, this has a bit of a caramel taste along with a bit of diacetyl, though not an unpleasant amount of buttery-ness. Tastes like an English IPA with American hops.
The mouthfeel is good. Has the bitterness necessary for an IPA. The finish is not too dry. Quite drinkable. I was able to finish the growler in a single sitting with no problem, as the ABV is quite low (I need to remember to write them down next visit). Damn Iowa's beer laws...
