Pours dark cherry red, nice and hazy with a big, retentive white head.
Smells of big funk hops, but the hops are somehow slightly muted. Can't put my finger on why that is... Anyhow, the hops are very good, dry, sweet, and grapefruity.
Tastes very good. A fruitjuicy hops blend like Fruit Rollups and bitter flowers. Apples, oranges, pears, and dry, sticky hop resin.
A big strong beer to be sure, and yet another solid offering from OC.

This new offering at the Old Capitol Brewpub (celebrating the start of the pheasant hunting season apparantly) was a pretty good IPA. It was served in a nonick pint glass with a dark amber hue and a thick white foam that left an excellent lacing. Had a decent carbonation.
The smell was fairly balanced. Certainly not a hop bomb. A nice caramel malt aroma mixes well with some piney american hops (centennial, I think).
The taste is not far removed from the nose. Shows off more of a pine resiny bitterness in the taste and mouthfeel. Has kind of a winter warmer taste to it with a bit of peculiar spicing, but otherwise not much different from the nose.
Drinkability is good. I would have another one of these, but I must admit though, I drank a Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale before going to the pub, and after this I was ready for a stout. I opted for the Terrapin Stout, which has quickly become my favorite beer from Old Capitol (hopefully it is brewed frequently as a rotating offering).
