Pours a black color. 1/5 inch head of an off-white color. Slight retention and slight lacing. Smells of roasted malt, coffee, slight sweet malt, and slight hop. Fits the style of a Bock. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp with an average carbonation level. Tastes of roasted malt, coffee, slight sweet malt, hint of hop, slight yeast, and slight grain. Overall, a little heavy on the roasted malt/coffee flavor, but good body and blend.

AP: Dark ruby red. Clear streaks of scarlet red. Nice little creamy beige head. Nice lace.

AR: Bready malts. A titch of chocolate. Some nice yeastiness.

TST: Nice bready malt base. Some chocolate. ANd even a little lingering bitterness.

MF: A little light in body for a bock. Medium at best.

DK: Pretty drinkable. Tasty and easy going. Not an all time favorite, but definitely not one I'd turn down.

A hearty, dark bock...aroma and taste are big on the dark roasted and burnt malts....char....some mild bready qualities...medium bodied...a very slight green apple finish...

Nice bock...lacks a subtle caramel component but perhaps that was the idea...darker and more burnt/stout characteristics than most bocks...a nice change of pace and certainly an assertively flavored bock.

This brew has been revived from the ashes of Stone City Brewing. The former brewmaster from Stone City brewed this batch at the Old Capitol as a spring seasonal to replace the Mardi Gras Bock. It turned out quite nice.

On the opening night, the beer was available with the option of having a red hot railroad tie dipped into your beer prior to serving. Unfortunately I was working that night, so I didn't get to try it, but evidently it was amazing, with more of a burnt caramel flavor.

The beer pours to a very dark brown, almost black color with a very fluffy white head. Lacing is decent. Not much else to note about it... it looks like a bock should.

The smell is good. Nice and roasty with plenty of caramel and a hint of hops. The taste is quite similar. Not too muddy, but not light by any means. If it had any more alcohol I wouldn't hesitate to call it a doppelbock. Very rich and roasty with a great caramelized malt flavor and a gentle hop bite in the finish. Very crisp and clean.

The mouthfeel seemed a bit light, like perhaps it fermented over 6.2 and they had to lighten it up a bit. I wouldn't be surprised, since I felt a decent buzz off a single pint. Still quite drinkable. Hopefully I'll be able to try this with a hot railroad tie before next year's blessing of the bock.
