On tap at Nodding Head on 8/6/08.

A - Clear copper body with tight wall of carbonation around half a finger of creamy, off-white head that diminished into patchy retention and spotty lacing.

S - Malty nose with caramel and toffee notes and a very mild hint of floral hops. Pretty simple aroma, actually.

T - Pretty basic flavor profile with caramel malt and toffee notes as well as some breadiness. Hops are almost non-existent, with a very light floral quality.

M - Light to medium body with soft carbonation, almost flat, with a watery texture. Very minimal bitterness on the palate.

D - Sure, it's eas to drink, but not really exciting. This could use more hops for sure... nothing over the top, but just something to complement the heavy malt presence.

This beer pours a brilliant brown amber with a sandy off-white film that left some nice lace behind. This is truly an attractive beer.

Smells of dry, sour grain, ash and feet? There's also a sweet and easy doughy malt followed by a crisp woody hop.

Tastes of thin molasses with a touch of lime rind followed by a dry touch of coffee. There's also a thin tomato juice. Why do alts tend to taste like vegetables?

Felt a bit watery but slightly thicker than water with a light, almost forgotten carbonation.

I haven't had too many of the style, but this wasn't my favorite.

Tasted on-tap at Nodding Head, this Altbier pours dark, ruby bronze. The lighter tan head has average retention but the lace sticks well and creates a nice ring.

Decently aromatic with sweet caramel malt and a hint of floral hops, not bitter but somewhat spicy and open. Just a bit of caramel/toffee thrown in there as well. Essentially what I've learned to expect from Nodding Head. the flavors and styles are quality and accurate, but often the beers' aromas are not very pronounced.

Mild in flavor with lightly toasted malt and a hint of subtle, floral hops. There is also a semidry, yeasty character. The hops really show themselves in the finish. Pleasantly bitter and appetizing. Some nice caramelized sugar or molasses comes through in the finish as well. Just a hint of spice. Somewhat mild but solid and well balanced.

Moderate carbonation and some slick carbonation. The texture lingers a bit but cleans up. Solid and representative of the style.

Appearance: clear brown in color with a 2" head that lasts a bit. Nice thick lacing paints the glass.

Smell: malt sweetness and a hint of chocolate.

Taste: nice malty base with some caramel, hints of chocolates, and ripe fruit sweetness are balanced with a mild bitterness.

Mouthfeel: smooth throughout. Very brief aftertaste. Medium bodied beer.

Drinkability: very enjoyable and easy to consume beer. I had two pints and easily could of had a few more if I had the time. You must give this one a try if it's on.
