The body is a deep golden amber, slightly hazy, with a white colored head. On the nose there is a citrus hop aroma. The body is medium. On the palate there is big bitterness that pierces like a knife, an assualt on the mouth with the citrus hop bite, pines, slight fruitiness, touch of caramel, grapefruit tasting, slightly grassy & earthy herbs, slight light toasted bread, again very citrusy…a bit much perhaps. I think I prefer to drink this a little colder, it was served pretty warm, and that may have affected my overall opinion. I’ll have to try it again. Had this on cask at the Grey Lodge for Fri. the Firkenteenth event.

This is a special cask version of the Hophead Red. I assume it's dry hopped in the cask although I did not check. It's slightly hazy and golden in color with a white head that holds fairly well. The head drops to a collar but leaves a good lace. There's a very nice, earthy/floral hop in the aroma. Maybe a combination of Fuggles and Goldings? The body is medium-light with a very fine, limited carbonation. Very smooth. A very nice, bright hop flavor rides a soft, lightly caramel body. The bitterness caresses the tongue. Overall, on the malty and fruity side with just enough bitterness to balance! The hops linger in a long finish. Starts good, finishes good. Very smooth, round and well balanced. An excellent session beer with the exception that the alcohol is a bit high at 5.8%. Very nice. Also, a perfect example of what temperature and carbonation level can do for a beer as, IMHO, this version far exceeds the standard draft version.
