Cask offering served in a standard pint via the hand pump at Nodding Head. The brew appears a clear mahogany with ruby to orange highlighte around the edges. A finger of tan head sits atop with very rich frothy head that slowly recedes with thick patches of lace sticking to the glass. Overall a solid looking brew.
The smell is fruity and herbal with hops. As advertised this is on hoppy brown. In the back its rindy and floral with a solid brown malt inclusion that smells like chocolate and toasty to bready grain. As it warms up, there is a bit of a mineral character.
The taste is very bitter with slight fruits, rinds and pulp mixed with a toasty chocolate to coffee grain aspect. Like the nose suggests, there is a pretty solid mineral content across the back that lasts into the aftertaste.
This is a medium bodies brew with a fairly modest amount of carbonation for the cask delivery. It was ok. The look and the smell were nice, taste is a bit clashing. The mineral quality keeps this back from me ever wanting to try it again.
