Pours clear, pale gold in color with one quarter inch head. Taste is straw and earthy hops. Light bodied, moderate carbonation and semi bitter. Makes for a below average export lager. Smells a lot more alcoholic than it is..almost malt liquor like.Hard pass in the future.

Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a clear golden body beneath a two-finger thick head of fluffy white foam. The head retention and lacing appear to be pretty good based on what I've seen so far. The aroma expresses sweetish and lightly grassy malt and/or hops. I can't tell if the grassiness is from the malt or from hops, and I can't tell if it's an adjunct beer although I'm leaning in that direction. The fact that I can't tell, however, is a positive. At the very least, regarding the malt and hops, the Dortmunder Export style should have a balance between the two where neither dominates, and that continues through the finish, so, on to the flavor... it's sweetish for sure, and I'd say too much so for the style. An export can have a touch of sweet maltiness but this is beyond that. As for the hops I'm finding more floral character now, and I believe that they are responsible for the grassiness as you get it lingering in the finish while the malt is fading. Just the opposite of the sweetness in the malt, which is high, I'd say that the hop flavor is a little low for the style. I think the bitterness level is correct but that's hard to tell with the sweetness of the malt standing out as it does. Still, I'd say this is fairly close style wise. The rule of thumb is that an export will have the malt profile of a Munich helles and the hop character of a Pils while coming out a little stronger than either. It's got the strength, but it's a bit overdone on the malt and lacking on the hop side. The mouthfeel is OK though, it's medium bodied with a medium carbonation that's gently crisp and then smooth across the tongue. It could certainly be a bit crisper but the smoothness is nice, and that seems to be something they look for in their lagers in the Ukraine. Setting style specs aside however, it's a pretty decent beer overall though it still remains a bit unbalanced. I'm not surprised by that though as a lot of the lagers that I've had from the Ukraine tend to lean a bit towards malty sweetness. So have I missed anything? Oh, yes. The initial lacing that led me to believe that it would be pretty good was misleading. The head held up fairly well but the lacing faded and once the head had dropped it never left any more. What I thought might be a 3.75 or 4 out of 5 ended up being more like 3.5.

Bright pale gold, visible carb trails, ample foam, collar of lace.
Odd bubblegum smell, then a bit saccharine. Soggy grains.
Taste is fairly bland, light cracker and mealy apple, weird aftertaste.
Astringent feel, a touch overcarbed, thin bodied.
Overall this was not the greatest, odd aftertaste and sweetness are out of place and a bit jarring. Not the easiest to drink.
