A 330ml bottle with a BB of June 2018. Acquired a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. A collaborative effort between Wylam and Northern Monk, the result is an IPA brewed with lactose, oats and blackberries. Hopped with Mosaic, Simcoe and Eldorado.
A: Poured into an IPA glass. Bottle conditioned. A very hazy reddish-amber hue with tons of chunky floating sediment and intense carbonation. The worst I've ever seen - all the lactose has coagulated or something. This slowly settles in a thick layer at the bottom of the glass. Yields a large head of creamy off-white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding and disappearing. Some residue lines the side of the glass. Not the most appetising beer I've ever encountered.
S: Aroma of fruitiness with hints of juicy berries, blackberry, tropical fruit, mild citrus zest, acidic white grape, subtle leafiness, delicate sweetness, pale malt and vague ale yeast. Predominantly fruity - unconventional but rather nice.
T: Tastes of juicy fruits with notes of blackberry, berries, tropical fruit, subtle citrus, zesty peel, white grape, leafiness, sweet lactose, ale yeast and faint pale malt. Sweet and aromatic, followed by a subdued hoppy bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly tingly, with soft carbonation and good body. Creamy and unctuous on the palate. Aftertaste of juicy fruit, berries, mild citrus, lactose, yeast and faint malt.
O: Interesting - my first experience with the milkshake trend. Messy, subpar appearance, however the aroma and flavour are seriously fruity with a pleasant underlying sweetness. Nice body. Shame the sediment spoils an otherwise intriguing brew - worth sampling if you appreciate the weirder things in life.
